14t sprocket doubts

  1. Hi peeps! Need to ask some questions!
Possibly I'd like to hear from 2013 owners with 530 pitch 14t:

    1) Are you happy with it? Is there any issue I should be aware of?
    2) I heard it interfears with the DTC, is it true? If yes how exactly?
    3) A full exhaust upgrade + remap are due... assuming the 2 things are related, should I do the sprocket mod before remapping?

Thanks and sorry if these questions have already been asked :)

  2. Why would it interfere with the traction control? The system will be monitoring front and rear wheel speed differences but the gearing isn't going to alter that. I wouldn't say changeling sprocket will be an issue at all.

  3. I read on another forum that the DTC doesn't react quickly enough to the fast wheel spin with the 14t sprocket sometimes...
    Bollocks? :D

  4. Maybe others know more, but I would have thought it would be okay. The traction control system will be spec'd to handle different loads and conditions, the only thing I have heard that messes it up is using different profile tyres as the rolling radius of the tyre changes and leant over profile changes which screws it.

  5. Phill, do you run the 14t sprocket yourself? If yes, would you recommend it?

  6. Bob Cooper was running a 14T front sprocket on his 2010 MY. He is on this forum... If that helps?

  7. I'm getting it fitted on Monday but mine is an 848; the reason I commented is because I bet that the 14t is the most popular mod to all Ducati's, there are countless threads on how much it improves low speed control and very few people seem to dislike it. The only people that haven't got on with it are people that have said that it makes the bike more 'snatchy' because of the shorter gearing.

I will let you know on Monday.

  8. Well, actually I had it on my old Monster 696 and it was definitely a "must do" mod.
That's why I want to get it done on the Muti as well but, since the bike is stuffed with electronics (obscured science to me), I'm scared I might screw something up if you know what I mean...

  9. Not really sure why you would want to change the gearing on a 2013 bike.

  10. Why not?
I'm a wild young male predator and the bike is too civilised for me! :D
I'd like to "hooligan" it up a bit, simples!

Unless you're a straight line speed maniac or you care about fuelling consumptions, I think it makes sense to "move" some power from the top end to the low rpm!

  11. I've done it on my 848 and didn't notice that much difference if I'm honest. It's easier to pull away with less clutch slip required.

  12. That's actually good news for me!

  13. I have a 14T front sprocket on my 1198 SP, it will not affect the traction control at all, and it helps to keep the speed a bit more real in 30-40 MPH limits. An ECU remap will sort out the low speed snatchyness and is well worth the cost.
    kev.

  14. Tried the 14t sprocket...found it easier to be a hooligan with the original

  15. Just don't think it needs it. It has plenty of go at all revs. If you want a hooligan bike its better to buy a Hypermotard or Superduke.

  16. I see your point... but, to be precise, I need a hooligan machine which is good for touring, city riding and a bit of off road too :D
What I really don't need is all that power in top end... why not bringing it down to low revs? Also to give a sense to 6th gear!
Anyway... it's a personal thing and I appreciate your opinion :)

  17. Why do you say that?

  18. Hold onto a gear for longer, working off the midrange, suits my style. Mine's been remapped on a full Termi system though, with very healthy results.

  19. Some say that by changing the rear sprocket say up by 3 teeth or so will give you a better and smother riding experience.

  20. Adding 3 at the rear means changing the chain as well and I don't think it's extremely different than simply going down by one at the front... I mean it doesn't justify the extra money for me!
