I'm sitting nicely on my Aprilia wanting to ride a Ducati, but until they make something worthwhile it's rather difficult to find the will to blow £40K on a pile of poop. Like Ian has suggested maybe I should just buy another Desmo?
165 kg wet has been mentioned. Superbike mag are quoting 171 wet with fuel. I find it all a bit hard to believe. WSB bikes are 165.
The "chosen few" have already been invited to purchase one. It's apparently 5kg lighter than the current WSB bike.
I wonder how you actually qualify for one. im sure somebody on here has done but I'm just wondering if there's a certain NDA that requires a signature, obviously no doubt outlining you can't discuss or mention the NDA. Im just curious really, I mean its only £40000, when I say only I mean that in a way where people are in a position to spend £40000 on cars etc so it's not beyond reach of a fair old amount of customers even though still extremely pricey for a bike. so do you have to be connected to them somehow, you know..... A bit buddy buddy? Sep Blatter doesn't work at Ducati does he? Kinda sounds like something that slippery old snake would come up with
Not at all, its Ducati, they measure success on brand awareness nowadays, in which case they could release a unicycle and some pleb would buy it as long as he could tell his mates it's the bestest most fastest unicycle everer in the world............... Until Japan make one and then it's not Lets all rejoice
It's a bit of both Damodici...what you have & who you know! Ducati have a VIP list of people who get the 1st shout at anything they make, dealers have been asked to "suggest" people (Desmo owners, collectors etc) plus there's the usual nod & a wink I guess.
I just like the fact that there are some manufacturers still prepared to make bikes like this. I can't see me ever being able to afford one but I am happy they exist as it makes the world of motorcycles a much more interesting place. I don't hear many people saying they wished Honda had never made the RC30/RC45 or Ducati the 998R.
I agree. Hugely expensive motorcycles - why not? Do you really want a world devoid of Ferraris and Lambourghinis? No one needs this stuff, but it is good that it exists.
So how many high end Ducs do you have to have to be asked then? Maybe they don't want me to get one given the level of warranty service I got out of them in three years on the desmo! That was a bargain..... 15,000mls of free services, engine rebuilds and a couple of chassis components! So is this like the "niche within a niche" club? Not sure you want to be a member of any club that would admit you etc.... The Honda factory racer might look tempting though..... breaking the Ducati collection up a bit? Unless this new bike looks awesome, in which case then we are all obviously going to want one!
get the the honda, it'll be epic without doubt. In fact if you're that flush get both id much rather people buy them who actually ride them to be fair, too many people with the money unfortunately don't, although Daves recent trip with fellow desmo owners kinda restored my faith in that and especially as a couple got binned
Have you been given the wink? C'mon, we won't tell anybody, have you got one coming and can we have a go?
Yes mate, I have my name on one & can't wait to be honest...I don't care if it's just a super trick Panigale, it's supposed to be absolutely stunning & very very different to the R! Have a go? Haha, that depends mate...I'm not possessive when it comes to things I have so I'm sure if we ever met I'd let you have a blast...my Desmo etc are always open to friends etc who appreciate what they are & as the advert goes, the smiles people have when you let them are priceless!
Top man, Moly. I suspect that this is one particular bike Ducati may well want to be ridden by its owners for the feedback they get from it. It would appear its been designed simply to win WSBK races so what's not to like.
