Speeding France!

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by Andybow, Sep 22, 2013.

  1. I've done it in a car I hired in Italy. I paid up.

  2. The French send their fines to other countries now. I know, I've had one.

I'm more interested to know if the Germans, Belgians, Luxemburgers, and British have followed suit. It's been 6 weeks since my little escapade but I'm still checking for foreign post.

I can't see how you can ride 3'000 kms across Europe these days without setting something off - unless you're on a Hardly Ableson.

  3. The rules for a hire car are: Cancel you debit/credit card after the hire payment has been made. They cannot take payments off a cancelled card!

  4. a guy from our club got caught speeding in a hire van the 1st he heard of the ticket was when the hire company forwarded him the ticket, and an admin charge, cheeeeky foookers

  5. I wish this EU referendum planned for/or before 2017 (assuming conservative remain in power)comes sooner rather then later. The quicker we opt out of this madness the better. Strange how other countries polled their electorate , yet we were not consulted before joining as a nation. The only referendum I recall was for the common market / Euro, which was totally different. Latest figures Ive seen is that Brussels now accounts for around 75% of our mandated law, excluding bylaws.
Most member states are just cash pinatas to bail out weaker failing economies. No wonder eastern European states are queuing to join, they will take far more then they can contribute.

  6. The referendum was in 1975 for membership of the European Economic Community.

  7. Perhaps you would prefer to arrive at Calais to find that your driving licence is not recognised, your vehicle registration is not accepted, your insurance is not valid, and you do not meet local construction regulations? Then you would have a complicated and expensive process to go through before you were allowed to drive in other countries.

No? Then maybe after all you prefer harmonised regulations across the whole EU, where licences etc are mutually recognised everywhere - like everybody else does.

  8. I,m thinking I,m never going to a hire a car again!
looks like I will have to pay up!

  9. In the interest of commerce a mutual agreement outside of the EU would be in place long before any separation happened . The UK is not the only country looking at the door with Germany growing ever weary of dipping their hands in their own pockets. No country wants to be a social or economic island, and it's just this very scare mongering that Brussels love. The reality of it is that no single economy can do without tourism , trade or commerce in any form.
Your scenario by implication would mean only Europeans get to travel Europe, this simply does not happen even now.

  10. So don't stop for the nice gendarme...

  11. always stop , do the crime pay the fine and dont feel immune from the law. All i am saying is on a private vehicle ive never been chased for a speed camera in france either last year or this year and thought maybe incorrectly UK didnt give over your details.

  12. I've heard all sorts of horror stories about brits being done heavily for speeding in France on the internets. It makes me wonder how they're behaving, cos I've been pulled abroad dozens of times, mostly for speeding, and have never come across these draconian fines. In fact I've never been fined at all in France.

If you get caught do the decent thing, drop your head and apologise. Seems some people have trouble with this concept...

  13. I just had a rather rapid ride through holland to the nurburgring, fortunately didn't see any police but have since been told about the average speed cameras between amsterdam and Utrecht, just hoping they don't recognise English plates.......

  14. you should be alright with that false one

  15. Well I live in a non EU jurisdiction closer to France than the UK and we are rather disliked at the moment by the likes of François Hollande, in fact we are, or were on his blacklist, but non of us Jersey folk have issues with driving licences, vehicle type approvals etc etc, so not too sure why you think this would suddenly be a problem for the UK if they decided to get out of bed with the French?

    Agreed

  16. The point is that you can have a Europe where there is mutual agreement and harmonisation of regulations across a vast number of areas; or you can have each separate country going its own way and making all its own decisions in isolation. Driving licenses and vehicle regulations are just one example topic among thousands of areas.

The EU consists of a structured process of harmonisation between member states. It has been enormously productive and beneficial for everybody. Some people apparently want that harmonisation to be reversed. They should think through what the consequences would be, in a myriad areas of life.

  17. I don't think you'll find that's true. If you buy something and cancel your card the cc company comes after you for the money so I don't see why fines would be any different.

  18. Not to mention demonstrating intent.

  19. Think you have quoted the wrong person. That was the exact point I was making as a response :)
