Can you post up some YouTube links to Northern Soul tracks? A movement I'm aware of, suspect I'd like but know little about in terms of bands and songs.
Probably the most famous Northern Soul Track. As only 2 copies exist and it holds the title as the most valuable 7". Northern Soul collectors are some of the most anal. At many northern soul events the DJ would not even tell you the artist as it was a very competitive DJ scene. I got into it late 70's as a mod/scooterist. I still love it to this day. Its very danceable music hence its popularity. Plus the talents of the singers is unquestionable. It took a load of northern brits to make Yanks aware of the breadth and depth of their black musicians. Edwin Starr for instance lived here because he was so popular here. Ive seen him several times and he was absolutely amazing. He would chat and have a pint with you afterwards. A nicer chap you would not meet. Just type northern soul into youtube. Also look into Stax/Philly etc. But as for artists there are thousands and most of them did not get any credit in their own country for their wonderful music. Ive got shedloads of songs. iTunes has some cheap compilation albums which would give you a taste. Sometimes confused with Motown but the beat is different. This sums the scene up a bit. I spent my entire youth like this. Until i discovered E and raving for a period. But I always return to this.
ok - was already playing in my head after ^ so :- Dave & Ansell Collins - Double Barrel - YouTube love the simplicity
El Toro deserves a self flagellating order for that. There was no need for RK. Come on Matt. Show some steel. Otherwise it will be East 17 next.
