I have reached the stage where I need to find a sensible Ducati that I can get on and off easily.I thought I had it with the SF that I bought-but getting leg over, ooh matron,is not very easy due to problems with mobility of right leg. I am hoping to have a go on a Monster 1100 Evo tomorrow. It appears from the spec that the seat height is lower-so I thought it might be worth a try.I have also seen advertised a Monster S4RS which also looks suitable. Has anyone on hear had experience of both and could perhaps share their thoughts? I had also considered the Diavel-I did test one about a year ago,but it seemed quite heavy and I was concerned about moving it around in the garage, nice seat height though.
Just throwing a bit of lateral thinking in here Mervyn. If you have problems with 'right leg over ' how about 'mounting from the left' I know that it seems impossible to do, but sometimes needs must, and I believe it's a case of retraining your habits. Like most things like this, it seems ridiculous to begin with, but with every attempt and success it will re-enforce the muscle memory until hopefully throwing your left leg over the seat becomes as natural as with the other leg. Don't blame me when you drop the bike though!
I like your thinking John and it is something I have tried with not much luck.Old dog and new tricks comes to mind. However I couldn't possibly throw up the chance of trying/getting another Ducati. I'm only after all looking at sensible bikes and not road missiles, although I would dearly love to have one I only just saved myself from getting a Gold Star at the weekend-you can get electric starts for them now! Anyway John I will have some more goes and I thank you for the suggestion.
I thnk the S4R would be a good idea, got plenty of oomph and looks low enough. AFAIK you can buy low seats for the monster series of bikes (?).
I rode a monster 696 on Monday, super low seat height and I really enjoyed riding it. For everyday I think I would get a 796 monster. Worth looking at. The S4RS would be quite a bit more to run wouldn't it? Also I think the 2 valve engine is really good in that style bike, so smooth
No Problems, TBH I really didn't find the 696 wanting for too much more power and I think the fact it is a smaller engine helps it to be smooth. That said I can fully appreciate people saying that if you were carrying pillions you would almost certainly want the 796 for a bit more torque.
That looks ideal.Just straddle the rear tyre and plonk myself down in the seat.Hope my arms are long enough to reach the bars.
how about one of these merv, my 1100evo 2012 , the new 2103 hyperstrada leaves me on tip toes, but the 2012 hypermotard is a normal seat height, normal riding position, feels very light and good fun ; ) , if im honest i always pick my 996 over it, but never the less a good fun bike
Earlier Monsters have lower seat height than later ones - just thought I'd say. Even a short-arse like me can get my feet on the floor on a M600...
Thankyou kev for that valuable info.I am hoping to get over to my usual Ducati dealer tomorrow and hopefully I can have a look/play at the various options available.
you crazy son of a bitch..that sort of logic and common sense will land you in all sorts of trouble on our next Scientology course...do you even want to ascend to level 3 Phaeton or fkn not???
Is the Diavel really too hard to push around? It's nothing like as heavy as its anvil styling suggests. Seat height really shouldn't be a problem, plus it's a cracking fun bike.
About 240kg on the road.If one is fully fit -not a problem.I did notice the weight when I test rode one.As you say seat height good.I don't think anyone would complain about the performance either.Apart from that the Diavel didn't quite do it for me-but a cracking bike.
The Diavel is by far the lowest seat height Ducati I've sat on (and I'm 5'2 with short legs). I was apprehensive about the weight, but it doesn't feel a heavy bike and I was able to push it around. (How easy I'd find it moving it up or down a slope e.g. sloping driveway I don't know). Of the current generation Monsters, the 696 has the lowest seat height - the 796 and 1100 are a bit taller. I'm led to believe that of the old shape Monsters the 695 had a lower seat than some of its predecessors. To ride, it wasn't that the Diavel felt heavy, but getting back on my 696, I really appreciated just how light and flickable it is. I love my 696, but if I had the cash I'd add a Diavel to my garage.
Buy he cant get his leg over a 848...and I'd bet a SF is lower at the back end. Well I know it is, I can get on one, I cant without lots of warming ip get on a hyper
