  1. while im trying to contain my excitement about getting my 'new' (to me) bike ive been fighting the urge to start looking at bling.
    i failed.

over winter i want to get the exhaust polished...i cant be arsed to do it myself..had all that with my beloved...do you guys think that i should wait until i get her serviced in spring next year (she needs the biggie...belts and all that)..i was wondering if the dealers would remove and send it off for me..cutting out the hassle...ive even kicked the idea of getting the swingarm done..too much?? if i ever sold her, i dont want people thinking ive had it polished because of an off...
have any of you guys removed the 1098 exhaust yourself? the 916 was dead easy, but the 1098 looks way more complicated..would i need new gaskets and all the rest of it??
i think im correct in saying that the stock system has a valve inside it, but im running the Termis...is there anything i need to worry about before removing?
Whose had this done and what sort of money did you pay?
    Soz for all the questions...

  2. arthur is your man for polishing......

  3. Yep Arthur can do exhaust polishing, I get mine done by a bloke called Mick in Hucknall Nottingham but Arthur's a top bloke so if its just as easy get it to him.

if the exhaust is similar to that on the 848 it's pretty easy mate, if I can't take it off anybody can ;)

  4. Mick in Hucknall..not a ginger fella is he?!

I've seen Arthurs work. Worth the money.

How easy was it to remove, coz ive heard a couple of the bolts are barstewards in terms of access.

  6. One of the rear cylinder header nuts is a tad awkward, best solution is to grind down a 10mm ring spanner and Bobs ya doo dah...:upyeah:

There are gaskets, but re-usable.... Least I do.

  7. Can't remember to be honest mate, it was ages ago when I had the 848, well before they turned in to the best ducati ever made :)

im pretty sure with a bit of patience you'll get there, you may need to pivot the rediator if I remember correctly for access but I could be wrong.

as with Arthur he'll turn up soon enough, if not he's on the CBR1000rr forum that rob owner of this forum also runs. I did used to know his shop name but can't for the life of me remember.

ill try and dig it out

  8. polishing. Lol. I feel your pain brother.

Standing there, coved head to foot in black shit head to toe spat off from the polishing wheels. Bits in yer eyes, up your nose. Our 916's are demanding whores.

  9. Right. The fairing take eons to strip down. Gone is the 20m strip down from the 916. Now Ducati feels you should bleed getting the effin thing off. Watch out for the hidden bolt on the nose cone in the centre, tucked away, hidden by a devious italian who hated women and beat his children. The rear tail unit, once you have removed every bolt. Not forgetting the ones either side on the very end of the side panels. You know the ones, the ones hidden there by the self same bastard that then put shark teeth tangs on the fucking under tray. Mind you thats if the effin bolts hadnt rattled loose and fallen off anyway.

Exhaust is easy by comparison. Theres a coupla lambda sensors to unplug and the valve comes off easy enough. But generally as ok as 916, maybe a bit tighter. Although theres a nasty bolt holding the cable mechanism to the exhaust which you need triple jointed extendable fingers to get too.

You will forgive all that once you open the taps and the torque hits your ass like a shove from a very big fucking shovel.

tip: tighten your fairing screws. I keep losing mine of my 1198 and i'm going to have a basil fawlty moment with those screws one of these days.

    you lucky bastard. :)

  11. Hehe. Mines still on. I just broke the effin thing off. (ive removed my valve in case anyone wonders)

  12. Yep, met him Sunday gone & instantly hated him... toyed with the idea of wrangling that piece backwards & forwards in the vain hope it would snap (wife walked out halfway through & asked why I was wanking the bike off) but nope.. Ended up doing the 'reacharound' past the shock with a ring spanner whilst holding the bolt from the front.. All good in the end but I'll be getting a grinder to that c~nt this weekend & lose it for good....

  13. haha. i did the wiggle. I was determined not to let the little bastard win. I was off to France at 4am the next morning. It was 11.30pm the night before. And I hadnt yet swapped my track day fairings for my road fairings. This of course that little fecker knew. I just ignore it now as its hidden behind some heat tape. I hope it boils to death.

Is this Ducati's most hated nut?

  14. Yes... Yes it is.. Neighbours learnt new words as my weak oily grip on the b#stard spanner slipped many many times haha I'd say it took half hour all in... I'll never get that time back... ever.. One thing mentioned above about the missing bolts? I had about 4 missing so I'll be using a medium thread lock when it all goes back on...

  16. did you scream...

    "Git Tae Fekk"...?

yeah, well, if youve ever read any of my forum bullshit, you'll know about my temper....things get smashed..i might get someone else to do the fkr...not because i cant, but because i cant control my tantrums...my brothers a daft twat too..the fkn stories we could tell you.....i might, just might, have a butchers and see...and hopefully resist the temptation to interfere..
when i was nosin' around the fairing the other day it did strike me how japanese the ridiculously complex fairing was...ive been spoilt with the 916...clip, clip, clip, clip..side panel off..key out....seat off...entire body work removed as you say, as easy 20 mins...i hope its not like my old blade..i nearly booted that fkr over a few times..snapped clips, scabbed knuckles, airbourne spanners, flowing tears....doing the whole Charlton Heston on bended knees Planet of the Apes gig...
