Realise I may be a bit premature here but with my rad blowing (replaced & fitted) & the fact my road tax is about to run out I've decided its hibernation time for the ole girl.... Come pay day she'll get new coolant (Silkolene pro cool).. New oil (Motul 300v) & I've got some plans for that exhaust... DP ECU installed so the butterfly vale is now redundant, grind that sucker out & weld in a straight piece... Lose the upper heat shield altogether & grind off the brackets, send the thing off to Camcoat Warrington for the ceramic coating in black... So.... what do you guys have planned for the cold months? P.S Well aware some of you will call it a bit Louie Spence I'm not riding it in the winter but been there done that on my old R6 & nahhh, Its not for me..

Having spent all of summer doing my bikes up I have very little left to do on them over winter. Doh. Got that timed a bit wrong didnt i! Still, i might see if i can build a monoposto style subframe for the 996 to save a bit of weight, and i need to paint up the race body work for the R1. Again though, wrong time of year to do paintwork when its cold in the garage, but it needs to be done.
the plans for the winter for me is to get everything on the project test fitted and ready to ride by the spring, then it will be a big strip down to adjust anything that needs tweaking or tidying and get everything finished, painted and the final buildup ready for the summer. Of course having a little un due to arrive in January the timing of the plans may change a little...
Easiest way to get the valve out is to grind the back of the pin off, then bash the front with a hammer, the break the rivets from the flapper. Just give it a shake and the flapper falls out. Then weld the 'oles up. Originally did this on my 748/1098 conversion..
2 things for me. Get track bike servcied, add PC5 or get ecu tuned, depennding on cost and ease fo getting it done, may get all the bodywork painted too But the big winter job is either...strip a lot, clean and have a crack at street tracking my DR or strip a bit and clean the DR up and sell it
Like Nelson cut the pins and knock the flapper out, also why not move the cover mounts to take the carbon Termi full system cover looks cool..
Cozy up at home, plug in the optimate, and have a cheeky blast on those odd dry winter weekends. might also pull the fairings off and give it a thorough clean.
I have a nice winter project of re-assembling my 999s trackbike with a new pair of engine casings (after bearing failure), adjust everything (belts, valves, valve opening angles and stuff) and reassemble the bike with newly painted/decaled track fairings for the 2014 racing season. The spare trackbike (GSXR 750 K7) needs service, exhaust cat gutting, crash protection and quickshifter/ECU trimming. Jim
I have a list on my Monster, Full service including valve clearances Re-check ECU tuning, as it's been remapped Front head stock bearing, i think need to inspected Thinking of tail tidy, but don't want to cut frame Bar risers Possible rental bars or powder coar original Possible footpegs, some nice ones Powder coating Swingarm, Yokes, Rims Most of these was on the list of winter last year, but the track bike took over, this time let's see how mch i can get done
im going to attempt a strip and clean and once im finished with the Mrs crack on with the bike. Is there any advice on sorting out flaking pain on the engine especially in the corners about the clutch?
I'm liking the idea of just grinding & knocking it out & it would sure as hell be cheaper.. but.. I'm looking for a smoother / understated finish (thats not to say the welded up flap hole (?!) doesnt look smart though).... Toyed with the idea of exhaust wrap but stories of warped / rotted pipes put me off a fair bit... Loving the work Camcoat have done so far on my 848 exhaust sleeves & want to see how their internal / external thermal barrier coating looks / see if it reduces heat... Liking the Termi upper cover too but also love the bare naked look of those fat ole pipes... We'll see... If it looks gash it just means a new mid section from PooBay Why Ceramic Coat Exhausts?
