I tell you one thing, he is gonna clean house, I put money on it. If you ever see him in WSBK, when the chips are down, he looks the same, he plays a good game and obviosuly feels he can make a difference. Id say it was a sh1t load of cash he got. Some additional announcement at 12pm or 1pm today ( from the twitter feed ).
No, that was it - Ducati made the official press release at 12pm CET (11am BST). I don't think it was a question of cash in his pocket, as I'm sure he has enough, but it was more giving him the power to do what he wanted to do to actually do the job; whether that was hire people or fire people or spend the right amounts of the company's money to get the job done. I think this is a really positive move for Corse, as not only do they have someone with a proven track record, but they also have given him the power he needs to sort out the problem.
It will be interesting to see what happens to the D16 project now... will Gigi bring a whole load of ideas into Ducati that will have enough force to change all the things that are wrong and turn the bike around? Or is this just another Rossi-like signing...
Well they have apparently given him free reign to hire and fire people so you would have thought that indicates he will have a lot of clout....
Well, they need some new thinking, so getting in a guy from the outside seems like a good plan. And he has form. They've got to start somewhere and do things differently if they want different results. But it's all going to take time, he's not going to pull a rabbit out of a hat, is he?
well Jeremy burgess and co couldnt with a lifetimes worth of experience and winning. looking back at ducati in moto gp its always been shit really. they got lucky with stoner in 2007 as that bike had an engine that truly kicked arse but still handled bad. every year before and since it has struggled bad. I cant understand why people are so surprised at this
Have to agree and they had the tyres which were made pretty much specifically for them (Suzuki also), that advantage isn't there anymore. I hope that that this brings in a much needed wave of change and can give us all something to cheer about later next year.
Not really true. Capirossi would probably have won the title in the year he was nerfed off by Gibernau in a freak accident at Barcelona. OK, so they had tyres that suited. So what? And it is so easy to forget the means Ducati has available to win compared to enormous companies like Honda and Yam.
Gigi confirmed as boss of Corse. He is replacing Gobmeier who is cast adrift instead of working under him as expected. Bring it on.
I think that Ducati will make a step next year, but it is likely to be 0.5-0.750 of a second which is a lot in isolation but Yamaha and Honda are not stopping still! they have both rolled out a 2014 bike on 2 occasions now. I suspect that Gigi's improvements in year one will be: Organisational - Bringing in Biaggi as test rider, changing the test team and shortening development time. And on the bike front - Sorting out power delivery of the engine off of the corners, which was always a Stoner complaint and one of the things Nicky always says makes it understeer. I hope as well that... He will make the bike pretty again... it's a pig... the 2007/8 Desmo was stunning...
of course its true. what if..what if - iffs and butts lol what if Rossi never fell off. what if Haydon never retired. people keep pointing out that ducati is a small company without the means..... well they are what they are and what more can be said on that point..other than perhaps on that basis they have as much right to win as a crt or small team..?? ...and if they do win its unexpected and a bonus ?? from memory 2006 was a good season to watch...some good racing
I think they had bigger issues to concentrate on. I think they would shape it like a turd if they thought it would help currently. Easy to tinker round the edges when the basic package is a sorted one i guess. But yes you r right it ain't a looker really, but the ART machine is a bit quirky looking too imo.
