Palmer Products Windshield Adjuster for 2013 Mutley

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by deaks, Oct 9, 2013.

  1. Has anyone any experience of the Windshield adapter/adjuster for the 2013 Mutley?
I was looking at changing the screen to the MRA touring with the little spoiler thing, as I find the wind
noise around my head somewhat knackering. I was wondering if this is a better solution?????

I just changed my helmet to a Schuberth SR1 and that has helped massively with the noise, but it needs to be better
    for long trips.

    Thanks in advance

  2. I was looking at this for my 2013. Whilst I don't get any buffeting I do get noise. I do wear ear plugs but feel it still can be a lot better. I too was looking at the MRA and Puig options , and still may go that way. But I cant help thinking that windshield adjuster makes the front end too butt ugly to warrant fitting.

  3. I know what you mean about butt ugly, it doesn't make it look very pretty that's for sure. I'm not so sure I could cope with the looks. The MRA screen looks good. I use plugs but can't seem to get on with many. I need intercom facilities for some serious touring in the spring, so was thinking of some custom moulded ultimate ear speaker jobbies. £170 but if they work well and cut the wind noise down then it will be money well spent.

  4. i was thinking of the Ultimate Ear plugs as well with built in speakers. Any idea how they connect with the various blue tooth options, I know they come with a 3.5mm jack, or do you use Autocom for touring which I understand is a wired option?

Would be interested to hear from anyone who has used Ultimate Ears plugs, they are supposed to be at the NEC so going to pay them a visit there.

Also not sure on the looks of the adaptors, but the images seem to show the screen in the extended position don't you think? If so I wonder what it would look like in the 'down' position?

    Dave.

  5. I always use plugs. Sometimes normal foam ones, but i also have ultimate ear plugs without the music function. They are both as good each other when it comes to noise reduction.
I don't find the moulded plugs that much quieter than the foam ones, but they are really comfy to wear.

MUCH quieter with either plugs than without any! But the buffeting is a pain in the butt.

The ultimate ears with 3.5 mm jack sounds a good idea. I guess some heavy metal playing would go well with the head buffeting!

  6. I have had ultimate ears for the past 3 x years, they make a huge difference to ride comfort. I have them connected to the SENA SMH10R which allows me to play music or audiobooks from my phone and gives superb bike to bike comms.
The ultimate ears are not indestructible, I damaged mine last year and it cost me £40 for a repair.
I would more than likely have gone with the foam buds but my ear holes are so small I couldnt get the buggers to fit in.

  7. I have custom earplugs with speakers, and they are amazing! Best thing you can spend your money on!

  8. Hey Andybow

What make do you have? I have looked at the ultimate ear ones, but I know there are others. I would like some that are good for music as well as speech.

    Cheers

  9. Daft question maybe, but how do the ultimate ears connect to the SMH-10R? The ear plugs come with a 3.5mm jack but the SMH-10R speaker connection does not look like it is a 3.5mm socket?

  10. There is an adapter available for about a fiver, it connects to the speaker output.

  11. Luckily I've got a hearing centre next to my business! They still cost about £170 , I've never really got on with the foam ones,
i have to say that I hardly notice they are in, the sound quality is fantastic, I have had them for about a year now, so really ppleased I had my scala adapted so I can plug these straight into it via a 3.5mm adaption wire, so I can listen to music, sat nav and my brother whoi generally always ride with.

  12. I find this is the perfect solution for the screen on the 2013 bike for me, it may not suit all but it does work and I prefer practicality over looks.
The problem with the Ducati 2013 screens is that they do not have a lip to deflect air upwards, air just spills off the top of the screen and may create buffeting .
The Wunderlich Screen adapter can just clamp onto the screen - But - with my 2013 Touring I do a lot of miles and I like the tinted GT Touring screen so bought one of those but then the Wunderlich Adapter was too high. I carefully cut a slot in the screen that has dropped the adapter down by 2cms so that I can see over the top with no problem and I get a smooth clean quiet airflow as well. This is with the screen in its lowest position and only in really heavy rain do I raise it a notch or two.
On short runs I don't need any ear plugs and you can ride at 70 with the visor up no problem, on longer runs I have the Ultimate moulded ear plugs and they are great at cutting out all noise (including music) so I can ride in peace and quiet. Helmet is Schuberth C3 BTW.

  13. Having used moulded ear plugs as well as the best foam ones I can find together with a schuberth lid I came to the conclusion that ear plugs are only half the job. I'm convinced turbulence hitting the lid is transmitted via the shell onto your skull which we perceive as "noise". Only answer is to get some clean or still air, I have a 2010 with Aztec spacers, little side wings and an MRA screen. Best combo I can find. I appreciate this isn't an option yet on the newfangled model.

  14. Ive been contemplating getting custom plugs made. Whats putting me off is that for every one who says they work well, there are equal amounts who say they ditched theirs after a while and gone back to foam. Reasons given are mainly that custom plugs are less forgiving in terms of fitting, eg they need to seal on the outer ear. Whilst expanding foam seals in all conditions.

Not having had any myself I can't verify, but its a potentially expensive gamble for those like me trying to make an informed decision.

  15. The ultimate ear plugs seal on the ear canal, they are moulded to fit the precise image of your earholes, In my case they are very comfortable, used on many European trips.:upyeah:

  16. I've had two sets of moulded plugs, first set about 12 yrs ago, made of very soft silicon which were very comfy, unfortunately when I got back on a bike my ears had changed enough that they no longer we're comfortable so had another set made (at local ENT Dept) but from a harder material, they were a good fit but over a longer ride became uncomfortable. I now use foam plugs. IMHO there's little difference in effectiveness between moulded and all types of foam, as I mentioned earlier, I think the "remaining noise" comes through my bonce!

  17. Think I will stick with foam for the time being at least. I have a large Euro trip next year which I thought I would use as an excuse to get some plugs sorted. I don't have any issues listening to music, radio or the phone through my starcom helmet speakers with them in, even on the motorways. May invest in a different screen possibly.

  18. I have a 2011 Multi with a Puig Touring screen which is 60mm taller than the standard screen and i wear custom fit ear plugs and the noise is still too much. I have even tried a Puig spoiler for the top edge and this has made no difference. I'm thinking of going the Palmer Products route with the spacers/adaptor next. Got to do something as it's deafening at the moment.
