  2. I own a 1098R & 1199R. Whilst I love both bikes, the 1098R has the sheer torque that the 1199R lacks. Sure, the engine on the 1199R spins very freely but the power delivery of the 1098R out of corners just blitzes the Pani.

I'm really not sure if Ducati tried to beat the Japanese at their own game with the Pantygirdle but at the moment it simply isn't working. A 1098R and 10k spent at JHP would give you an amazing bike.

It's a bit sad, but my old RSV4 Factory would probably beat the Pani and that's a lardy old girl but my God, what an engine.

  3. load of old boswelox innit this invite thing...getting into the ferrari bullshit.

the bike is a largely unaffordable marketing exercise to further project the ducati 'exclusivety'..sadly this means useless flaps of foreskin like justin bieber will be buying them...companies like ducati need the unattainable, aspirational (starting to sound like the muppets theme song here), products to keep the bullshit alive, and to remind everyone that they are not just another bike manufacturer...its all bollox...but id rather that, than be riding a Honda that takes exactly 16943 seconds to make.

  5. ive got my own private jet..

    prove that I havent;)

  6. Define "better".

  7. I didn't define 'better' but someone else said it would be better. How do you know?

The specs seem to suggest the Superleggera will leave a Desmo way behind on a track.

  8. are these your rose tinted ones again........

  9. A Panigale will probably leave a Desmo behind on track

  10. a bit like if carlsberg did twins.....

  11. ....they'd probably be the cheeky Girls...but if Stella did twins, I'd be interested ;-)

  12. Ah champagne taste on beer money.....

  13. ...maximum value, minimum outlay...oh no hold on thats a BMW RR

  14. I doubt that. Desmo is a missile by comparison getting out of the corners. I absolutely flattened a Panigale S last time I was out on track, and he was on full gas. Panigale probably has the edge in chicanes etc....

  15. Obvious caveat rider dependent. TC, ABS etc etc means earlier gas, later brakes, lower times

  16. Agreed sir, but like for like, the Desmo is just far quicker, having ridden both. Panigale is deceptively quick, Desmo is just quicker!

  17. So are you of the mind a v4 into a more modern chassis the way forward?

  18. It may well be. The v4 engine is just so much nicer to ride, smoother (unsettles the chassis less) and you aren't relying on overly complex electronics to calm down the enormous thumping pistons.....

Like the 2008 MotoGP bike, a v4 in a carbon airbox/frame was probably the way to go if there was a serious alternative to the current alu box frame they have all adopted. But the L-twin is too aggressive in it's current incarnation and needs too much electronic management to try and make its character rideable. Not sure why the MotoGP bikes are struggling though, they are a v4, but are apparently also very aggressive in character.

Desmo v4 simply isn't, its a fabulous engine. So too is the RSV4. Panigale is quick, but hard to ride (well). I prefer my 848 (which I am sure you like!). I am going to go and test ride one of the 899's too once they are out, to see if the different (softer) engine character improves the bike/ride.....

  19. As much as I like the 848, I'm under no illusions on track its gets mullared by bigger capacity bikes if two equal riders are on them. Just finding my feet on my gixer which has about 160 I reckon with no tricks and tools to manage the drive other than wrist and rubber, and its a little intimidating off lower speed corners and trying to get on the gas. So a Desmo must be interesting to say the least...whereas the Panigale seems more like a twist and go scooter when it comes to opening the throttle.

not ridden one btw, just what i have picked up here and elsewhere around

  20. The aprilia v4 engine is one of the best I've ever ridden , I've not been lucky enough to ride a desmo but I really don't see why ducati don't just adopt a v4 lump in the main bike range.
