Best Bikes to buy as Investments?

Discussion in 'Lounge' started by Dave, Oct 12, 2013.

  1. '92 Blade, '85 GSXR750, early R1, 916 specials, early hinckley Speed Triples etc.

All moved things on, are fairly cheap now and will be worth good money in about 20 years time if kept well. Nice investments if you are interested in them but will need regular maintenance and the returns will not be as good as many easier investments...

  2. R7 or maybe an R1SP. Not common.

  3. Some say these could become as rare as hen's dentures. Wish I had the money to buy a 749R, but I wouldn't stash it away as an investment. I'd have to ride it on sunny days. :upyeah:

  4. If those who have plenty of money to spend use it to buy lots of top-end new bikes, that supports the manufacturers and keeps them in business. But if they bid up the prices of the desirable old bikes, that just pushes them out of the reach of ordinary guys as Steve R rightly says. So they should go out and buy a Panigale Superleggera or two, say I.

  5. Forgive me the typo Mr.R the (S) should have course followed the 4. But to concur, I'm of the same opinion that bikes (all) should be seen and ridden as much as is humanly possible.

But as to the OP's request for which bikes to invest in those would be amongst a potential list, much prettier than stocks and shares, IMHO.

Warning: The investment of fossil fueled relics can go tits up as much as any other speculative venture.

Why does the smart money always go for gold?

  6. Note: the price of gold can go down as well as up. There is no such thing as a dead cert.

  7. Honda NR750
    Honda RC30
    Honda RC45

    Ducati Supermono
    Ducati 955
    Ducati Desmosedici

Ducati 999R seems like they will go up in value as pretty low at the moment but will they be really sought after in the future I don't know.People will maybe remember them as the ugly duckling that put ducati into a lot of trouble due to poor sales.Maybe worth looking at Nortons and Bimotas hmm SB8R very tasty.

  8. I had a bloke today ask if I was interested in buying his 916sps because he knew I used my 999 for hillclimbs .
its no 347 of how many 1000-1500 , not sure but it has also only done 347 miles , has all the original paperwork , bill of sale and still has the box it came in , or so he says . I have heard he's short of money. Bids please

  9. The only real value anything has is for using it as intended. Wine is meant to be drunk, there is no point in keeping it indefinitely. Similarly malt Whisky is a good investment especially from closed distilleries. But if no one ever drinks it, what's the point?

I am glad that some people keep bikes as investments and never ride them. It gives other aficionados the chance to own a new or nearly new bike years after it was released. I can't afford a Desmo but if I ever come into some money I would cheerfully by a low mileage or new example. It would be a chance to catch up on what I had missed first time around.

  10. two stroke 250 of any sort at the minute is going up in value
but look at the most popular and most crashed at the time and that's what will most likely become collectable and going up in value
just look at the classic car market who would have thought escorts and Cortina's would fetch the money they are now

so my money would be on a good clean example of maybe an early r6
but end of the day buy what like not just what plays the numbers game
no point in buying something that could be worth something in ten years if you don't like the look of it

  11. i think the MV Agusta F4 750 ORO would be a good one to buy. the original MV, and it marked their re-emergence as a company. The ORO was the flagship bike.
Also perhaps the Veltro, Castiglioni, and the Tambo, but in terms of historical significance, the ORO must be the most important one.

  12. Spot On , imho !!!
But in saying that , would never want one in my garage !!!

  13. Late 999R.... 2005/6

I sold mine, like a tit. Stunning bike all round. I believe prices are creeping up now. Get one!

  14. if you put a value on your time, i think it would be worth more to use it.
