Ducati centre stand or alternative?

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by Gerby, Jun 2, 2012.

  1. Hi all. I just bought a new Multi 1200ABS and I want to get a centre stand. A Ducati one cost approx £180 which is a bit steep. Plus the stand hasn't been modified and so fouls the rider's left foot. Can anyone recommend an alternative make of centre stand and any idea of the cost.

I've only done a few hundred miles on the bike so far but I've really enjoyed it. I have an 848 also but I think that the Multi will probably be the bike of choice from now on.

  2. It depends on your use for the centre stand. If its only for cleaning, oil change etc, forget it and buy the ABBA paddock stand. No extra weight, no foot fouling, and use when required.

  3. And you dont have to buy new! 50 notes buys you a stand on evilbay and fitting kits can be had used too but only run about 25 quid new from demon tweeks or similar.

  4. Thanks for the replies guys. I have an Abba stand for my 848 and I appreciate it's value. But I want a centre stand for general use. I don't like the idea of parking the bike in public places on side stand only as it is more likely to be moved and dropped by others. I just like the general user friendliness of a centre stand.

I had a look on eBay but didn't see anything used. There is an SW Motech one for sale new. Any thoughts on this?

  5. There is somone selling a used one in the for sale link on this forum

  12. Don't understand all the fuss about OE centre stand issues.Mine's given me no issues whatsoever.

  13. Do you have smallish feet by any chance?

  14. Depends in how you ride though, and where you put your feet. I'm also a size 9.

My 'normal' style was to ride with the balls of my feet on the pegs (ex sports bike rider), but I couldn't do this on the Multi at all on the left peg. Therefore, I had to modify my foot position....I now ride with the arch of the foot on the peg....this way the problem is much reduced.

So, it depends on where you put your foot, and how you ride.

My preference? A shorter 'arm' on the centre stand so I can choose BOTH foot positions... ;-)

  15. Base plate modicfication

May I suggest you make a slight modification to the base plate! There was a great post with pics on either Ducatisti or MS about cutting out a bit where the bolts for the centre stand go through the base plate, so that you never have to remove the centre stand again when making an oil change or if you ever need to remove the base plate.

Perhaps Andy's motorcycle info pages have the pictures.

Anyway a five minute job and it will save masses of time and frustration in the future.

  16. Thanks for that Multi Rider. I'll have a look for the information.

  17. Hi,

I'm making secure stands and have them used on 998 (single sided) 999 and 749 amongst other bikes, they work quite simply with a bar passing right through the hollow rear axle to a double sided stand. As standard I use a 16mm bar but size isn't critical but could make larger if required. Its then really easy to lift on the stand using your foot like a centre stand or pulling on bars or with a hand lever. Easiest to see on youtube or my website:

  18. Hi Monntek,

Very interesting stand. Ideal for use in a garage and particularly as the same stand can be used for a number of different models unlike my 848 paddock stand which can't be used on the Multistrada.
