I raced a vtr 1000 in the BMCRC thunderbikes series last year, and have bought a 749 for next season. Not allowed a 749s. Thunderbike rules basically are you must have less than 105hp, there's a power to weight rule and your bike's model must be at least 10 years since it was introduced. It has PVM wheels, a power commander, ohlins shock and damper, reworked forks, brembo clutch and brake master cylinders, lightened stuff, slipper clutch etc. only reason for a aftermarket exhaust is weight. If poor on a dyno I might get something else but... Cannot have more than 105hp last dyno output 103hp, though. nearest ducati dealers to me is probably Hyside (i live near Southend in Essex) I can do most servicing myself, but I am not doing the belts and valves on a ducati! this is a race bike. It has a v5 and I may make it technically legal and get a mot for it, although no side stand etc. Any advice on where to take it for engine servicing? Thanks
Interesting choice for racing, you don't see many around paddocks. Not a blue one is it?! Not sure how far he is, think he's M25 end of surrey/leatherhead, but Mike Dawson MD Racing has a lot of fans for building and maintaining race bikes
Depending what year the 749 is, the last model, red frame was a better bike, swinging-arm more bhp etc. I owned a 749s red frame. great bike. although it needs setting-up correctly. Because the suspension out of the factory is crap. But once set-up the bike glides round corners and is very stable. You got to have a lot of confidence in the bike. I live in Southend, I use a bloke called paul in Leigh On Sea, He is good, he does my Aprilia. And he does Ducati's. tel: 01702 470653
I'm in Brentwood , Essex. I use Alec at Ducati Pro Team. He is based in Stroud Kent and does a very reasonable collection/return service. He has been working on Dukes for years including race bikes and really knows his stuff. Best independent in the area imho.
