First time ever but bridgestone have said there tyres will not last . So its a compulsory tyre change midway. Probably a change of bikes but it will be the same tyre type going on. Should make things a bit more exciting . http://www.motogp.com/en/news/2013/race+direction+decision+for+phillip+island+race__________________
I don't really get it. Tyres wear out and lose grip in every race, are bridgestone/dunlop saying the tyres are gonna fall to bits? Everyone's racing with the same tyres in the same conditions, so surely part of the strategy is to manage the tyres as much as the bike? Making a tyre to last race distance would mean making the tyre so hard it would be as dangerous at the start of the race as the existing tyre is at the end of the race, wouldn't it?
They will be excluded if they do more than 14 laps. From what I read seems they fear them falling apart after 16 laps. As mentioned elsewhere, wonder if that means the full power taps will be opened if they get two tanks of fuel.
Think bridgestone said that there hardest tyre couldnt do more than 14 laps and would be dangerous after that . Its a compulsory tyre change . No staying out must come into the pits and change tyres . Probably bikes. Beaten to it .
I reckon they're all selecting the biggest power maps now, 2 full tanks of fuel for 26 laps should get the best outta the bikes
youve raised am interesting point there re full tanks of fuel.. now I think about that I think they wont. maybe more than enough to cover the laps with comfort but still less than full for an advantage ???
oh I agree, there's no need to run a full tank in each bike but the rules don't govern the amount of fuel you can use exactly, it specifies the tank size e.g. Motogp factory have 21ltr tanks (according to motomatters, cheers Dave) so if they have to run the bikes lean normally which I presume they do, then tomorrow they can say run 13 litres per tank x 2 bikes and have 1 ltr per lap (26ltrs/26 laps) which should give them quite an advantage Id imagine they can all run the 'fuel no object' maps and really kick out some power, might catch some out, might make the yams really quick , it's all very interesting all of a sudden. i think they should spice it up a bit more and do a Le mans style start, I'd wet myself if Marquez fell over and everybody just ripped off up the road
Hmm, seems you can't just copy a tweet in link format, well, Dave said the fuel tank thing and so I presume its correct as he's normally bang on
I wonder if another amended ruk will surface, giving max 21l to be shared across both bikes. Guess it not hard to have someone watch over teams filling the tanks May be added bonus as Vale and Cal allegedly struggle with full tank so have a tank may keep them closer at the start
Apparently the tyres are blistering up badly and simply won't do more than 16 maybe 18 laps according to Bridgestone, so they are having to limit the total laps to prevent a Shinitschi Itoh style 300kph total tyre delam and collapse...... Remember that?! It was proper frightening, amazingly he was ok.... Also with so much grip at the back the fronts are pushing and being thumped too. Agreed it might make it more interesting tomorrow. Also just seen the Scott Redding news.....
apparently the news coming out from Marc vds is that IF he can race tomorrow he will but they're expecting him to miss two races and return on the final round. bad news
Shite isn't it. im kinda hoping he'll give it a go but then again I wouldn't blame him if he doesn't, he's had the call up to Motogp and that's the ultimate for the lad. just gutted as he looks to be on pace and reckon he could've ran with them in OZ and his size wouldn't of hindered him too much. hopefully Rabat will beat Pol to limit the damage
You never know, Pol isn't infallible either, but I can't see him cocking up this chance. Would've been superb to see a British world champ, but I honestly can't see that happening now.
yes that came across my mind too. hopefully it will be a close race. the only stumbling point may prove to be the pitstops themselves that may break the racing up..
