My first ever experience of the TT was watching practice last night at the bottom of Bray Hill, probably the fastest part of the course, when the first two bikes came down all I can say is ffs you crazy bu**ers, I knew it would be fast but that was something I will never forget. Steve
They are bonkers arent they....but if you think thats fast, get up around the Verandah up on the mountain......
Yup scary fast and bonkers, been a few times and the Manx where I spannered for a mate a year or two ago just watch out for the nutters on bikes so far 3 dead on road bikes
Bray Hill is nowhere near the fastest part of the course, it's impressive becasue of the relative speed in a built up area at the bottom of the hill - check out the Highlander, Sulby stright and the drop to Brandish if you want the top speed sections. If you want to see mad stuff and the authorities haven't extended the prohibited zones even further this year, there's great wheelie action at Rhencullen 1 and 2, massive jumps at Ballaugh and one of my favourites, Knee down on the right hand pavement at the 11th milestone! Enjoy
Just got back from an early morning blast around the full circuit , brilliant over the mountain, unfortunately when we got back to the hotel we heard the mountain was closed yet again for another accident. O the bikes were clocked at 190mph down Bray Hill looked pretty fast to me. Steve
It's fast I'll grant you but there are faster places by a good way - they were doing 190 down sulby straight ten years ago when it was still bumpy LOL
Well back home now and all i can say is if you haven't been then its a must do experience. Watched the action from many different places including the Bungalow, Creg na Bar and a few of the long straights the names I can't remember at the mo, really impressive action wherever you view it from and cant praise the commitment of the riders highly enough. Away from the racing I rode the course twice in the early morning before breakfast and the second time was much better knowing the road a bit better, over the mountain it's hard to convince yourself that its ok to overtake on double white lines at silly speeds when the police are at the side of the road watching. The Island appears to attract all the nutters as I spent more time looking in my mirrors than in front of me, not knowing which side the next bike would come past, no wonder there are so many accidents on the mountain some involving multiple bikes 4 in one case, the mountain section was closed at some point every day I was there due to accidents. No way would I go out on Mad Sunday after that. Will be there next year though, ride safe everyone. Steve
I really want to go!!! Did you camp hotel or b&b? Racing is the best in the world super sport was amazing less than a second after 4 laps!! RESPECT!!!
We stayed in a hotel on a b+b basis, £50 a night but very good and on the sea front in Douglas 1/2 a mile from the pits and start finish line, some mates stayed in ready erected tents next to the pits at around £20 a night. The joy of riding the corse during TT fortnight is that the Mountain is restricted to one way tragic allowing you to use all the road. Steve
