Calling all skiers

  1. Due to circumsatances outside of my control I am having to take my skiing trip this year in the last full week of March. So the question is where ?

It has to be high due to the late season, preferably big mountain, mainly on piste and probably in Europe.

    Any suggestions ?

  2. Tignes / val d'isere, its great there, most of the pistes are open well into april as its so high, the glacier is open all summer too

  3. As above, Val Thorens is pretty high also which should be ok... Pity you can't go further afield though opens up plenty of options

  4. Such as ?

  5. Tignes / Val d'Isere seems to have a more youthful vibe with music on the slopes (which I hate), or am I wrong on that ?

  6. Val thorens is the highest resort in Europe. Good conditions there always but be prepared for a day off because of altitude sickness!

  7. La Thuile, Valle D'Aosta, Italy.

  8. nevis range maybe

  9. Or nearby Cervinia, I've skied there in April and there's always snow at the top.

  10. Personally for me it would be Whistler all day long, Banff is pretty good but it's a bus ride to lake Louise, sunshine etc

  11. If you stay close to the resorts then yeah it can be a bit like that but if you venture further out then its much quieter. The Espace Killy ski pass gives you the whole Tignes / Val ski area which is vast!

  12. When did Canada become part of Europe?

  13. Your eyesight must be shite! OP asked where outside of Europe later in the thread, keep up at the back!

  14. It must be cos I can't see it

  15.

  16. :upyeah:

  17. No major surprises there guys, apart from maybe Nevis Range.

Cervinia was high on the list. Val Thorens just looks so harsh. La Thuile is an interesting one which has caught my eye in the past but it isn't particularly big or high at 2600m so might be better in February. Tignes was on the radar and is looking better with time. Whistler is left field but definitely worth taking some time to research. Others that caught my eye were Val d'Isere and La Plagne, although both my daughter and I were vaguely disappointed with Les Arcs a few years ago.

I skiied Serre Chevalier last winter and it is very good but not great.

My current favourite resort is Flaine, a large bowl with satelite resorts to visit if conditions allow but I am looking to try elsewhere.

It probably won't be The Lecht though.

  18. Avoriaz/Morzine - I love it there :upyeah:

And I'd recommend treelinechalets too. First class accomodation, food and service and not too expensive for all that you get!! Fact.
