My Red 899

  1. But from what I gather the ds swinger is lighter, so why bother fitting the heaviest swingarm to the more expensive bike? Surely they should have been chasing performance?

  2. One word darling....style.....

  3. Ordered my red 899 with free Termis yesterday (traded in Fireblade and 748). Should be ready to collect in 2 weeks from Ducati manchester:smile:

  4. Nice one - are they offering graphic packages?

  5. Nope, just the free cans. At least, they never mentioned it yesterday! Next 'issue' is tackling the insurance...

  6. Sorry, I wasn't clear.........I didn't mean for "free". I just wondered if they were offering some nice graphics/paint jobs?

I fancy one for next spring but I'm not overly excited about the plain colours. Something like a TriColore would be lovely IMO.

  7. Dave rear hugger and bling here,

  8. Very nice indeed. Still a gorgeous looking bike. Look forward to your thoughts after a few more miles.

  9. It does feel lighter riding it as the weight is low down, but actually.........

    Dimensions and weight

    Dry weight
    899

    169kg (372.5lb)

    848 Corse SE

    167kg (368.2lb)

  10. if that's 169 dry the 1199 is lighter than that I think ,must be more than bigger indicators from a parts bin ,,

  11. More importantly, how comfy is it

  12. Done a bit more on mine today. loving it more and more but there are some things to get used to that I am dealing with

1 it is either slower than expected or faster than it feels (have not made my mind up yet)

2 The quickshifter is no were near as refined as the BMW one, and if you change up whist accelerating its fine, bit too long a cut but acceptable. but if you accelerate then ease off (like some one has pulled out in front of you) and your now at say 8000 revs but constant speed, if you change up it gives you a fair jolt (best not do this mid corner!)

3 the noise! not exhaust noise but mechanical noise (like the engine is beating itself to death) but I am told I will get used to it and not hear it as much when the termis are on. Oh and the induction roar! don't think it has much of an intake silencer/filter!

don't get me wrong, the above is me being picky and comparing it to my other 4cyl bikes. its growing on me day by day!

  13. Yep, had the same experience mid corner on the 1199, nearly lost a testy as it was like a double miss-fire... Not cool, better however than the triumph 675 one which was not good IMHO.

I am still not convinced by quick shifters on the road, can it be switched off?

  14. You dont have to use the quickshifter so no real need to turn it "off". You only really want to use it during hard acceleration and with commitment in which case you should have no problems.

  15. One mighty congrats .... :) enjoy the bike....

  16. another little niggle, don't bank on the anti wheely saving you!! (if it has it?) I nearly flipped it today! coming if a roundabout in second, gave it too much and just as I was coming over a crest of a small hill the front shot up so high and so fast I thought I was coming off! My mate behind though I was going for a roll around on the tarmac!! I think I need to read the manual!!
ps still loving it though :)

  17. just read the book, its got anti wheel lift (rear wheel) no mention of anti wheelie (like the BMW has) ooops :0

  18. You are right -no anti wheelie that's only on the Super Leggera at the moment

  19. Yep, didn't want to say as I wasn't 100% but the 1199 was deffo trying to wheelie on me!

So glad your enjoying it mate, sounds to me like the HP4 will end up being sold? As good as it is, can't see u not jumping on the 899 for all sportsbike duties??

  20. No!! Never sell the HP4! It really is in another league!!
