What do you think - Marquez tshirt & helmet , bad advice?

  1. Don't Japanese draw themselves, and others, like that in their massively-succesful anime cartoon stuff?

  2. They have a tendency to draw Manga cartoons with more of a western eye shape more so than East Asian and very 'white western' in skin appearance oddly enough.

Ah who cares now anyway, I was just pointing it out initially as I was curious as to what others thought, clearly people on here weren't overly offended but a lot of others were.

The knobs who advise him are still in jobs I presume so its onwards to Valencia :)

  3. I'd be willing to bet it was the japanese crew that bought him the shirt.

  4. its not like he throws donkeys off towers ???????

  5. nothing the matter what so ever, that's why this country is in a state to nanny state frightened to even fart in public get over it

  6. Race is a social construct.

The image is mocking their ethnicity and disrespectful to their cultural etiquette. That is not how Japanese people expect to be engaged.

  7. He should have kept it private then.

He is an idiot who has done a lot of harm to Honda. Japanese culture has highly structured etiquette.

My sister in law is Japanese as is my cousins wife. When my cousins wife was introduced to my sister in laws father and found out who he was, she visibly panicked and was damn near prostate on the floor.

  8. Or from another perspective, remember the controversy about the way Spanish F1 "fans" treated Lewis Hamilton. They painted their faces black. It's the same thing.

  9. That says a lot more about your family than it does about japanese or spanish culture.

Look at Marquez' team mates - they're japs! And it is almost certainly them that bought him the bloody t-shirt. Damo keeps going on about 'advisors' or managers, but they wouldn't have known anything about it, it was a little joke between teammates that has been blown out of all proportion by indignant brits with no clue as to how the shirt or the picture came about. For fuck sake get a grip.

  10. The reason I've mentioned his advisors and/or managers is quite simply because it's not just a £5 T-shirt purchased off a flea market by his mates in the garage as you would like a stag do tshirt.

It was a full blown Shoei paint job requested through the channels directly to Shoei for his race day helmet to have that image on the back, there are brand representatives involved at every level when it comes to that kind of thing, it's not done by mates, it's done by people with highly paid jobs to manage brand, image rights etc etc

that is the same helmet he wore throughout the race and the same helmet he took up on to the podium and in to the press conference following the race, that isn't a private joke, its brand / product placement and image management.

this isn't mock outrage created by me as I personally don't give a monkeys, equally if you'd seen the twitter remarks you'd also know it's not offence stirred up by 'indignant Brits' as you put it.

i think I'm pretty safe in saying that Marquez wouldn't have given a public apology based on this thread or any other threads made by Brits, you'll probably find its from the backlash it caused from the very people he was 'honouring'.

It offended lots of people from Japan and neighbouring East Asian countries, not all of them, but some. That is where a large proportion of the tweets came from and remarks about the portrayal of their races appearance.

The same way as if he'd painted a gollywog on his helmet certain sections of the Afro caribean , African and general black communities would be up in arms, again not all , but some.

thats exactly my point, he hasn't offended me and why should it, it hasn't offended you or many others on this forum.

what it has done is offended a portion of a completely different market in which Motogp operates and as such I simply say it was a stupid decision and one that should of been picked up on by many people who are paid large amounts of money to know this kind of thing. Those people should be managing Marquez as a high value product, that is after all what he is.

If it makes the hardcore MM fans feel any better I'd of said the same would it have been Crutchlow or Redding, theres just certain things you don't do when dealing with global brands and image rights, this IMO was one of them.

  11. Will this mean MM will be on a Ducati very soon?

  12. Moronic and fairly foul. Spain isn't as polite a place as the UK when it comes to dealing with other cultures - and it's a worse country for it. In the past (and I mean recent past, not the 70s), black England footballers have had bananas thrown at them and monkey noises. In my Spanish class at university, our Spanish teacher made some appalling comments to the many Chinese & Japanese students in the class. They complained - lady said it was common in Spanish culture.

Puts MotoGP in a very bad light and I doubt Honda management would have been very impressed by it - the real Honda management who write the cheques for HRC...

  13. My immediate family are not Japanese.

How my cousins wife responded to my brothers father in law is between the Japanese. You may show no respect for their customs, but I do.

If I looked at threads on Moslems, I wonder what I would find out about your opinions on the niqab and how you think Moslems should view our customs.

  14. One last thing. Like Damodici, I am not bothered either way. I am not Japanese and not offended. I don't understand how people get offended on behalf of others. Makes no sense.

Now get back to your own personal outrage. ENJOY

  15. Certainly sounds like indignation to me...and if you'd ever worked in a race team environment you'd know there's an awful lot that doesn't get seen or heard upstairs. Maybe it was Shoei's bad taste that has got Marquez into trouble, have you thought of that..?

I'm not the one being outraged, you and Damodici are. Personally I find the outrage utterly laughable.

  16. I'm outraged that your not outraged cad

  17. Calm down dear, it's just a...t-shirt.

  18. I'm outraged...... You forgot the helmet ;)
