I'm having a few issues with the paint work in various places on the bike. Anyone else suffering with this?
It's a 2010 model, which I've had from new and it's just had it's 37500 mile service. What can I say? I bought it to ride it!
Ha, ha! No, not in the sea but I do ride in all weathers. It's my only mode of transport as I don't own a car.
Now, did you get the extended warranty? That is the question.... Doesn't look right to me. Mind you, I've only done about 10,000 miles, but even so....I've never seen anything like that on any of my bikes, and I've had a fair few that have clocked up serious miles. Like you, I don't have a car, so the bikes get used all year round. It doesn't look right, so I'd talk to your dealer. David
That is awful. Do bikes have anti corrosion warrantys like new cars? I know one thing, Ducati will NOT like that flicking around the web.
Mine is a July 2010 with 23,000 miles on the clock and I have to say that the paintwork and overall finish is still in very good condition. It does get a little TLC now and then but if I was you I would be having a serious talk with my dealer / Ducati about that kind of corrosion.
Shocking, but as you say it's a workhorse, I've seen bikes with a lot less miles and not as old worse than that, BMW/KTM/Honda spring to mind.
*OUCH* Did the bike get any anti-corrosion treatment over Winter, road-salt washed off etc? Duke engine paint is far from the best, but shouldn't be shedding like that. :frown:
I bought a new monster in 2004 and suffered similar flaking on the engine casings. Ducati claimed they had never had anyone complain about it before me, which I know wasn't true. Anyway, to cut a very long and boring story short I had to do loads of complaining culminating in a massive letter quoting the sale of goods act and they agreed to fit new casings for free. It was a right pain in the arse and they made me sign a confidentiality agreement that I wouldnt tell anyone about my experience. doh.
David, I do have the extended warranty but it's still within the original 2-year warranty (just). Apparently, 'corrosion issues' are not covered, so DucatiUK have said no to fixing it.
Funny this should come up. I've suffered a bit of corrosion with the paint bulging out on my clutch cover, not much but enough to annoy the tits off me! Not flaking yet. The bike is 2010 with 12k miles on it. Seen some bad weather but not loads. Always cleaned it pretty regularly so I was shocked to see it on it's way. Dealers have taken pics and are on to Ducati as we speak, I'll let you know how it goes. My dealer says they look at the overall condition of the bike before submitting any warranty claims of this nature.
470four, I do ride through winter and wash the muck off, as and when, but even my old Bandit weathered better than this.
Stu/Bob, Im disappointed to hear that too... It's only had 2 winters max! Ok, it's travelled a fair few miles, but even so, you would expect much much better.... I'd agree with all the posters above...talk to your Dealer (you've done that), talk to Ducati UK, talk to Ducati Italy, and if necessary publicise your problem. It's really not the kind of publicity that Ducati would want, not on a 2 year old (ish) bike.
That was mean! .....lol Definitely keep chipping away at Ducati and keep looking for means to apply 'pressure'. Obviously your bike didn't end up like that over night, with 37k+ on the clock your bike will have been in to the Dealer for at least 6 scheduled services and most likely other times for fixes/recalls/repairs - where was the the support and advice from them when the first signs were showing?....where were the warnings that "corrosion issues are not covered"? I guess they could kind of use a similar argument against you and ask why its been left to get so bad......you need to give some thought to that one ;-) No joy with Dealer.......move on to DUK, then Ducati Italy if needs be as per the contact info I sent you. Keep us posted
