Thames Pageant Moan

  1. You have to imagine that an assassination attempt on the Queen was a possibility. 1'000'000 people - only takes one. So no doubt the law was jittery. Could even have been a threat, though we'll probably never know about it.

Of course, with the demise of the IRA, we could all be living more peacefully. But then if you're going to stir up the beardies by piggy-backing on Uncle Sam's unnecessary wars which only fuel a far-right and industrial military agenda, you can't expect peace any time soon.

A simplification of my views perhaps, but what do you expect on a Ducati forum, a thesis?

  2. Well I watched the pageant, actually the highlights, on TV and went down to St. Katherine Docks yesterday to look at the boats, a much better idea in my opinion. I thought the dog captured the spirit of the holiday rather well?

  4. for me, the lack of planning by the rail companies was appalling. A Sunday service with 1,000,000 people expected (this from the BBC). Then, they closed the main entrances into Waterloo because of crowding and prevented people getting into other stations. FFS, they were telling people not to drive but to use public transport - which didn't turn up.

Re Lucaz' comment about the terrorists winning if we change our lives as a result of their actions - absolutely agree. There's far too much security at airports. I had a bicycle spanner taken off me at Nice airport - 2mm thick, 250mm long, 50grams. The reason was because I could have used it to hit someone over the head. I hope they won't think about banning people who have had Karate training from flying, cos that would be the end of family holidays for me... Tw@s

  5. Its a fine line... I was born and bred in South London and grew up with IRA threats ... bomb scares where normal.
As was said the IRA often gave a coded warning.. still doesn't make it any better but .....

After the bus and tube bombings :( only takes a nutter with a rucksac:(.
I also expect a bit of dry run for Olympics.

I know he was just a protester but look at that moron who jumped in the river and messed up the boat race, how on earth did that let that happen!

  6. Isn't the Thames a public waterway? So who has the right to stop him?!

  7. Jerry what makes me lough is fact it was less people then during Olympics. During Olympics they also ask people not to drive ..... well good luck you all. I have found a place walking distance from my work, minimum stay 4 months but I will get on with it and stay 4 months before looking for proper home. I can see people listening to not travel home during rush hour but instead going to a pub for an hour. After that go and stand another hour before you get in or go back to a pub get so pissed that they will not let you in :D

  8. I'm going to ride my bicycle where it's safe for me to ride it and sod the 'vips'. The rest of the time, I'll work from home. Simple : )

  9. What I am afraid off is more Ducati's will be used to commute during that period, well in general more motorbikes. Those who will go in cars will be stuck in traffic for ages some are going to cook their cars. Calling for recovery of any sort will be interesting as AA/RAC will also get stuck in traffic. :D I was thinking about organising a protest where a big group at certain time during the day suddenly rides/drives the Olympic lanes. What will they do fine everybody?

  10. exactly. I can see that happening.

  11. I feel a holiday coming on.

  12. betcha get moved if you did...........

  13. If it makes you feel any better. We got as close as the Starbucks near tower bridge. Could get any closer. Couldn't see over the construction barriers. I did have the forethought to bring my iPad. So we watched the boats go by from the Starbucks WIFi next to the thames.

We should have just stayed at home and watched it in the 50 incher.

  14. moron??? probably not, more likely very intelligent as he found a non violent way to make an effective protest against what he thought was one of the ills in todays society

and he has done the security forces a huge favour by highlighting potential security loop holes in a non violent way

  15. We are always being reminded of the woman who threw herself in front of the King's horse at the Derby in 19... er... something before my time. A suffragette of course. I wonder how that went down at the time - not well I should imagine.

However, she was at least complaining about a significant ill in society which could easily be put right. Whereas what's-his-face was complaining about... what? And what did he expect anyone to do about it?

Let's face it: protests are totally overdone these days. They are like car alarms - no one takes a blind bit of notice; they're going off all the time. Even when God knows how many showed up to ask Bliar not to go to war in Iraq, what difference did that make? Diddly squat.

  16. Go on then, without resorting to Google, if it was so effective what was the issue he was protesting against?

  17. The upper class society ?? I have no idea ??? It was not clear.

I was stunned he got to swim out that far??

What ever he was protesting about wasn't overly clear .... And just peed people off .

Have to say if I'd been training hard all year for an event I'd have been livid.

The only thing I will contradict myself with is..
Theres all this hooha now about racists at the Euro..
simple teams should pull out .. If those countries are hosting it's up to them to sort it out.
If they can't sort out this minority then teams have a choice don't go and play ... Or play and rise above it ..
If they can't provide a safe and pleasent atmosphere to play a sport of any kind then why where they even given the go ahead to host it.

    Rant over :)
