899 First ride out

Discussion in 'Panigale' started by Cupid Stunt, Nov 5, 2013.

  1. Managed to get a ride out on a 899 demo bike on Saturday 2nd November, the dealership was desperate and let me have it for a couple of hours :)
Hmmmmm lets see now, after owning an 848 Evo for nearly 3yrs now and had the 848 street fighter for the last year too I was surprised at how much of a grin the 899 put on my face.
    So where to start,
Suspension - very solid but not uncomfortable, seat is rather plush too, both are an improvement on the 848 Evo as I couldnt manage more than 60 miles in one go without getting a sore arse. Did 100miles on the 899 with no complaints from my wrists, spine or arse.
Brakes - Well its got ABS though I didnt notice it, the breaks are monobloc and worked very well even in the cold and under hard breaking.
Power delivery is smooth as not snatchy like the evo especially at slow speeds, I deliberately took through the town centre to see how it behaved and must say I was impressed, at 30mph the evo would cough, splutter and buck like a rodeo pony on steroids but the 899 was so smooth and didnt even flicker.
She handles like a dream, the only thing I dont like is the 60 profile tyre but thats a personal preference, had one on my streetfighter and changed it to a 55 first chance I got ..... no more chicken strips.
Quick shifter - Never had one before so cant compare it to anything but first impression was it did what it says on the tin, hold the throttle steady at anything over 4000 revs and just keep flicking that pedal up no fuss no drama up the gears it went and no loss of power, even tried it round a few bends now thats novel. It works really well might consider getting one for the SF.
Only two beefs with the bike the suspension on the side every time I came to a stop and put me feet down I could feel the lump but no doubt will get used to it.
Getting to the side stand was a pain too, I use the heel of me Sidi boots and the peg kept getting in the way, someone suggested using the toe and sweeping it which seems to work ok.
Anyway now I have bored you all silly the upshot is my 848 Evo has been traded in and I am eagerly awaiting delivery of my 899 in matt white.

  2. Sweet! Sounds like it's going down a storm, any ideas when u will get it? Are u waiting deliberately or is there a back order?

  3. Nice one. A couple of hours test drive they must have been pretty sure you were going to buy. Good luck with it.

  4. I had already ordered it the weekend before, but weather was to crap to get out on it.
They wanted some mileage put on the clock hence why I got 2hrs and they know me quite well obviously i'm trusted lol

  5. I aint got a clue I am being told it should be first week of December.

They have two on order so it's when the bologne factory in Italy gets its finger out to deliver so no not deliberate.

  6. Dont forget your free Termi's:upyeah:

  7. Oh dont worry I wont forget them, even though the standard pipes are very loud, in fact they are louder than the full system Termi's on my 848 Evo

  8. im still waiting for my Termi's looks like they might get here in time for the first service. you right its loud! I was out on mine last night, got back a bit late and I saw next doors curtains twitching!

  9. the manufacturers have definitely found a way to let the bikes 'Breathe'. When my bike is really hot it is quite loud compared to other standard bikes I have had. TBH getting Termi's for me would be 50% about the looks, as I don't want more attention.

  10. Oh have you already got your 899 you lucky fekker, I have been told delivery is December :(

Yeah when I took the demo out I noticed how loud, fired it up and it was ooooooh then when out on the road and I gave it a bit of right hand the valves opened and it nearly deaffened me.
Think I might need ear plugs.

Hope your Termi's turn up soon.

  11. Well with the Termis tucked down in the belly pan you aint going to notice the looks that much.

I had a 749 years back, the 848's standard seem really high pitched compared to the older Ducs.

  12. I have had mine a few weeks :)

  13. Has anybody got the termis fitted yet?

i just want to know what db they run at as I'd like to test a 899, you see if I went for a newer sportsbike it'd mean me trading in the bike I currently use on occasional track days so would need to know how the 899 would fair on 105db days instead.

I've searched youtube but can't find anything .

  14. Git I am sooooooooo jealous :(
Where did you buy yours from?

  15. Havent got a clue sorry mate, I am still waiting for mine to be delivered :(

  16. Hyside in Romford

  17. Bit late now to be swapping as my evo has been traded in :(

  18. to be fair, I paid for mine 3 months ago, and had the first customer one. im not sure when they are getting the next batch

  19. That really dont make me feel any better, You are the first person I have come across that actually has one, have you done many miles on it? What do you think of it?

  20. I get mine on Saturday, just hoping I will get decent weather on the day.
