Isle of Man TT 2014 camping

  1. Hello all! Hopefully I will be picking up my 4th Ducati this weekend. A Multistrada 1200S. I can now venture a little further than a 3 hour ride without feeling a little stiff!

I want to attend the 2014 race of the TT, it will be a 4/5 day weekend sort of thing. Not the entire event.

I will be venturing with a lady friend pillion but would love to meet some fellow Ducatisti either for the ride there or beers on the island.

Can someone tell me what my best option is for camping?

  2. a tent :upyeah:

  3. Wise arse haha. I meant in terms of location etc etc.

  4. Number of places you could go, depends on what you want, couple of ideas for you.

Quaterbridge - Tented Village, right on the course.
Glen Lough - Between Union Mills and Glen Vine, again right on the course.
Peel - The sunset city, my personal fave. About 2 miles from course and 8+ pubs in Peel all in walking distance.
    Glen Wyllin - Kirk Michael.

Also worth a shout is Glyn and Eddie Sherman at Cronk Ashen which is top of Barregarroo. Top people.

    Google will show them all.

  5. Oh and if I do go, I would be happy to meet up and show you around too. I used to race Sidecar there so I know the way over the mountain!

  6. My friends go most years. he has a long wheel base transit. He takes his bikes over, than sleeps in the van. although the crossing has be booked-up well in advance. And it isnt cheap.

  7. I am going for the first time next year with 2 friends and we are staying at St Johns. For 5 nights we are paying £145 which includes the tent and stuff. We have upgraded to a bigger tent too so we have a bit more space....

  8. Hmmmm, I will check the ferry today then. Fitzjnr, that would be epic mate! Beer vouchers in it for you haha.

  9. Me and the fund manager are booked on Glen Lough, massive site, only 4 showers, toilets always full. but great atmosphere, live bands, beer tent, food available most waking hours, not too rowdy, frequent buses / taxi on site to town, we stayed there for the first time last year blazing hot, hope its the same weather this year.

  10. Ive always used this campsite Cronk Aashen Farm thoroughly recommend it, has 3 sheltered hard standings for the about 80 bikes, owner is very friendly has showers, cooking facilities etc is about a 10/15 minute walk to Kirk Michael along the actual race course road. I will be going next year again and have booked up to stay there too. I think its about £7 per person per night.

  11. That is a good price! Cheaper than a camp in Swanage.

Can you take your bike out to drive around during the day? Or is it pretty secluded?

  12. We stay at Glen Wyllin in Kirk Michael every year, for the TT and MGP. Right across the road from the Mitre and also next to the beach:smile:

  13. Cronk Aashen Farm is a short distance from the course - You can get out anytime the roads are not closed for practice or racing. During closures you can still get anywhere, but it will take quite a lot longer via the Baldwin road and the the TT access road in Douglas.
I'm not sure if Barregarroo crossroads is one of the crossing points which may be open between races, in which case your options may be better.
If you have had a heavy night it is only a short stagger to the top of Barregarroo to watch the action, it is a good spot! (not as good as the bottom), but you are not allowed there anymore. Memories of Dave Jefferies hammering through there with the suspension bottomed out, almost grazing his shoulder on the drainpipe of the building......

  14. I know the one, watched many times on the benches outside at the front of the Mitre, its a good spot. If you see a red 899 parked there next year it will probably be me

  15. Like has already been said, only time you can't ride is when practice is on or racing. Practice is usually 7 to 9pm and roads are open again shortly after, race days its usually shut most of the day. One thing to remember national speed limit on the Isle of Man is no speed limit :upyeah:

  16. Hi All, well I live in St Johns opposite the camp site, they have great facilities, band on in the club house most nights and the local is just 2 minutes walk up the road, Walking distance from Ballacraine to watch the races.
You can rent a big tent sleeps 4 comfortable two either side and a shared sort of eating area in the middle. Not sure on prices but it saves you packing a tent, Great breakfasts and food in the evening. We don't cook at home TT week just walk across the road. If you need any help just message me and I can sort most things out, a lot of guys DHL gear to me and collect it when they arrive.
