That is a magnificent piece of machinery you have there Fig, I see them being used all the time in India and have spent many a happy hour watching the mechanism work whilst having a shirt or trousers made. I'm pretty good with a needle and cotton myself, but the speed those machines can do the job when being used by the right pair of hands is amazing. Just be aware how easily you can 'stitch yourself up like a kipper' when you are learning to use it
I thought it was the New Addington Facelift? South Croydon is the nicest. I wouldnt even go to west croydon. Never pass Maplins thats my motto. I like old sewing machines. At least I am not the only weirdo.
I am a South Croydon girl... ( Selsdon ) . Born in Mayday. Yup west Croydon is a hole .... We used to try and avoid going past Argos if we could and if your really brave go past the bus station!!!! Never had a Croydon Facelift .. Monks Hill and Addo .... Arghh yes .... The badlands !!! Old Singer ... Not seen one of those for yonks!
I used to live just off Croham Road in Sth Croydon. I'm in Cater-on-the-Ham now. Got friends in Selson so say hi to the white 1198 that may pass through. In fact I shall be visiting Selson later on today to drop some stuff off. In car though. Brrrr.
for a while i went to shirley high school, but avoided john ruskin…... had friends on addington estate, but never visited them... i did once have stitches in my knee in Mayday hospital. when i started work it was in Wettern house, dingwall road, overlooking east croydon station, and the thruppeny bit building. croydon was the best, croydon rocks!!
Oi! This isn't a 'how much do I know Surrey' thread, ffs, it's a bloody serious thread about sewing machines and shit. Croydon my arse. Only glad I never mentioned Mitcham...
