I'm looking at an 848 which is being advertised for sale with a FULL termignoni system. The deal does not include the standard exhaust system. Would the bike fail it's MOT due to emissions (?) as am I right in thinking the full Termi system does not have a Cat? Any help greatly appreciated. Mark
From memory the cat is only fitted to meet European not UK regs. My S4RS goes thru its MOT with a full race Termi system fitted and no cat or DB killers (think the MOT tester is a bit deaf).
If the price reflects that there is no standard exhaust then I would buy it. I have never had a failure because of the termi and if I did I would look for a more friendly mot station . I think that standard exhaust systems will become cheap very quickly , as they did with the 999 series , and you will soon pick one up on Ebay .
Thanks both. I had assumed Full Termi = No CAT = No MOT but happy to stand corrected. Letting the seller keep & sell the standard exhaust was just a way to get a bit more bartering on the price.
NO emissions testing on UK bike MOT's, so no problem. Pipes shouldnt be a problem as long as they dont have "Race use only" or "Not for road use" on them? People no more expect to hear a quiet Doocat than they do a quiet Harley... I have these on my Yosh carbon race cans to show to Plod/testers, my MOT'er used to MOT my Dad's bikes back in the day & doesnt even start the bike up?? Exhaust ok as long as no leaks & not "excessively loud" http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/METALLIC-...cycle_Parts&hash=item2ebbee154e#ht_829wt_1139
If it does have "Race use only" stamped on it and the stamp is covered by tape then the tester cannot remove. As said, emissions not currently tested, but excessively loud systems could (I believe) fail.
My 916 with Termis has passed all it's mot's with no probs. 848 standard exhausts are cheap on ebay. I bought a complete 1098s system for £60 as i wanted the black anodised cans on my 848. Like 2242 said, if you have any probs find another mot centre. Good luck with the bike, i love mine to bits, just wish i had more time to get out and ride it.
I don't know about an 848 but on a 916 type bike the 'Race use only' is in such a place that you can't see it unless you remove the exhausts. I've also 'heard' that it's not stamped very deep and if you polish it slightly enthusiatically it has been known to disappear, allegedly...
On the 848, 1098 and 1198 it's stamped underneath the Cans towards the center of the bike. So unless "rubbed out" or taped over the MOT tester can and will see it.
Thanks all - decision made, going to get the full termi bike. The dealer confirms he knows a "sensible" MOT tester! Once I get it I'll post some pics up.
The MoT test has NO provision for starting the bike, so noise is irrelevant.....I have a full race Ti SPARK system on mine...and it never gets started at MoT time......
I've not had mine tested yet, but I took to the dremel to polish the stamping's off on my termi's. My local test station normally starts my bikes, but armed with the above info the key will be in my pocket next time....just in case. Anth
I still maintain that's not correct. There IS a part of the test to confirm the exhaust is leak free and not excessively noisy (although there is no specific definition of "excessive" ). There is no way of checking this without starting the bike.
My old 848 failed for being too noisy... Although the tester was an utter tosser and lucky I'd didn't punch/report him! Story for another day. I believe the bike has to be no more noisy than an equivalent machine...Something along those lines. Obviously pipes with "For track use only" are a non-stater. From MCN Site...So must be true.. My local station will fail everything without baffles. He'll then sell you a set for £30, pass it and has the cheek to suggest he has them back was they will be 'no good to you now'. He doesn't even fit them and does a full retest even tho its no moved anywhere! I take mine elsewhere ;-)
