999 engine to 750-900Super sport frame?

Discussion in 'Builds & Projects' started by rokyluk, Nov 6, 2013.

  1. Do any of you know if 999 engine fit to SS frame?
    Specialy vertical cyinder is critical?

  2. may be a bit tight with the air box and injectors

  3. I wont get 999 engine but i can get a full kit 821 engine thats why am asking.
SS would be a real beast with this type of engine. But i think there is not enough space in vertical cylinder. But if anyone ever try it, please let me know.
I dont want to be a first who try this :)

  4. I would think no,and I don't think the frame would be upto it,and there is the extra electronics rear suspension rads fork upgrade brakes swingarm bla bla bla .....go for it.

  5. Anything is possible but the swingarm mounts are different; you can't hang the swingarm straight from the engine because there are no bearings in the crankcases of a 999, plus the bearing bosses are narrower. You'll have to modify the frame to carry the swingarm or modify the cases to take bearings.

I'm building a modern take on a TT1 using a 749 with two front heads. I'm going to bore the cases to take a cartridge that passes through the crankcases, containing the swingarm bearings.

  7. I will agree to that,im building a ttf2 replica for a mate over the winter.

  8. I've put a deep sump 999s engine, t'b's and airbox in a monnie S4 frame, along with a 999 black swingarm.

Not sure how vastly different it is to a ss frame though.

  9. As i say i want to fit 821 HYpermotards engine into ss frame. From drawing you can see that hypermotard 821 have bearing for swingarm so you can easy plug and pluy old swingarm.
Two years ago i want to fit 796 hypermotards engine to my other ss frame. All was fit plug and pluy just there was problem with swingarm. I sold this bike to my friend and he still didnt fix this bike. Bike is still in this stage. There is need to be some welding into the frame for rear shock if he want use this hypermotard swingarm.

  10. Hi All. I can categorically tell you that a 4v engine will not fit in an SS frame.

In addition to the swingarm mount width and bearing problems already mentioned, the vertical head wants to sit where the shock mount is and the underside of the fuel tank would also need modifying for clearance.

I know this because I tried it with an ST4 engine (no issues with swingarm mount there). I was going to solve the shock mount problem by using a Monster 696 swingarm as the shock mounts off to one side. I've still got the half-modified '91 900SS frame.

If you wanted to do this with a Testastretta then the only engine that would work would be one from a Monster S4RS, but my comments about shock mount and tank still apply!

    Hope this helps!

  11. Thanks man. Really happy to tell me this! So best thing is to fit some newer desmodue engine :) 1000 or 1100.
I think there is no problems with monster frame ?.

  12. When I put the 999 engine & swingarm onto the monnie frame, the shock mounting positions were on the n/s for the swing arm and o/s on the frame.

I had to alter the frame to move the shock position to the other side (n/s) I had to also weld outrigger supports from the s4 frame down to the outside of the swingarm pivot.

Most things can be done, it's a matter of how much of a ball-ache you want.

  13. i admire all of you technical bods out there, splitting your dirty fingernails and scratching your heads...but the Ducati engineers must think 'why did we fkn bother with all that testing', when, in sheds across the globe, blokes are bolting 916 swingarms onto monster rear shocks onto the S4 engines with Fireblade electrics....!

  14. A man's shed is his Castle...:upyeah:
