Great article by the way, thanks for the link. I think everyone here knows how much i admire Vale..it was disappointing that JB was fired before the race..it seemed very disrespectful, but in light of a leak i think his hand was forced....it's just a sad ending. Whether JB continues in motogp is anyone's guess. He is 60 and appears to have aged significantly this last couple of years, his wife is very ill from what i gather, so i don't know if he will have the motivation. He certainly has the kudos, results and respect of the paddock. I dont think that the bar has been raised beyond Vale's reach..i certainly don't think that Lorenzo, Stoner, Marquez or Pedrosa are any better than Rossi was in his day, but the fact is, he is in the twilight of his career...The man is 34...Marquez is only 20... I wrote a lengthy post about this some time ago..VR has nothing to prove to anybody, except maybe himself..When he was at the peak of his career he was the best that we have ever seen, control tyres, factory parts, black magic or not....the greatest of all time...but his day has passed..he is still in the top 2% of the world's greatest, it's just looking like JL and MM are in the top 1%. And lets not forget, Marquez has been groomed for success since forever and jumped straight onto the best factory bike out there...Vale was on the satellite bike for two years when he graduated to 500cc (Nastro Azzuro). Every dog has it's day.... Whether the seed was planted by Yamaha or it is a last ditch effort by VR to have a final stab at glory i don't know..Both are scenarios hold water... I think if you stuck Vale on the Honda he would be having podiums, but would he be world champ again?? sadly, i dont think so, and i would love for him to win one more, just to silence the nay sayers. Without Rossi, i doubt that we would have the likes of Marquez at the top. Rossi is the greatest that we have ever seen, time will tell if Jorge or, probably Marquez will take his crown...they are very big boots to fill.
You can't write a 34-year-old off, that's no age, not even in the white heat of motogp, but Marquez and Lorenzo have raised the bar by a quantum leap this year. Add to that Rossi's two shit seasons on a shit bike, and watching a close friend die at close quarters, and I don't think he'll ever have the same mental strength he used to have. If his game plan doesn't pay off I can see him quitting mid-season.
Just imagine the quandary if Rossi suddenly gets his mojo back - all those fans who have suddenly switched from yellow to red won't have a clue which shirt to wear...
Although I think MM is an immense talent I haven't jumped ship yet. Though I do see JL in a different light this season. The boy done grown up.
Hopefully this'll stop the old boys banging on about 500's and 'real men'. The current level of GP racing is the best we've ever seen.
But I would like to see the current riders on the last of the 500s (or their present bikes without an electronic safety net). Just saying......
Those 500's were knife edged. You couldnt back them into corners. They were a lot less forgiving. You could not ride them with the wheels out of line. But you can only race with what you are given and I am sure it would be the same lot up the front on the 500's as they would be on the 4 strokes. Albeit without Marc. He'd have died by the time he got any further than 250's. His style is to hang it out a bit and you could not do that on the 500. Unless your name was McCoy. For me Moto3 is where the racing is. And moto2. Motogp was a bit of a yawn until Marquez popped along. However Jorge really wanted that race and for that he has gone up in my estimation. He was ruthless and fast. But the Moto3 was the race of the weekend for me. Maverick seized that race from the off.
and JB's replacement is..... Silvano Galbraith..... Valencia MotoGP Test: Valentino Rossi's new crew chief named | MotoGP News | Nov 2013 | Crash.Net MotoGP, Galbusera: Yamaha? Una famiglia vincente
Valentino should retire with immediate effect. Theres only 1 competitive Yamaha. The other one, Vale's, is not performing. Cal should have been on that bike. I say that as a Vale fan.
its funny but when you look at old videos of the classic 500cc races and WSBK there is a noticeable, and distinct lack of lean angle...
I've literally just watched the Estoril race from 2006? Where pedders wipes hayden out and Elias rides like a man possessed. Great race, Nicky was apoplectic
