Fantastic rider undoubtedly and I am a big fan but ! Take these points away for leaving the track, hell he almost left the circuit ,and he wouldn't be 2013 champion. Did race direction let this go because they set a precedent by not penalising Rossi with the same pass that he put on Stoner. Which was nowhere near cutting the corner as this. As I mentioned I have no axe to grind I love the way this boy rides a bike , similar to Stoner (my favourite and sadly missed rider of the modern era) but come on there is a track there for a reason and unless I'm mistaken its to ride on, if Randy de Punitive made this pass to grab 15th off of Aleix Asparagus you can bet your arse he'd be ducked the point. i had DORNA fined him....for not paying to use the car park. i think they let is slide because A) He's Spanish on a Spanish sponsored bike. B) Rossi pulled the same on Stoner C) A. (Great pic btw)
No Fig the tracks there for a reason as I've stated above , in any sport there are boundaries , you don't play down the side-line in football nor do you go around Mayfair on a monopoly board to save the fine, unless your a cheating bastard ! If that move was ok then they just as well tarmac that area so the riders can straight-line it ,effectively removing a more difficult part off the track , apply that theory on all the tracks they go to and the racing will get worse ,more boring imho.
he cant keep getting away with mistakes big ones ,think Lorenzo will win next year, don't think cal will do anything ,he will get frustrated when smith keeps beating him ,
I agree 100% with the first post. On the other hand, his performance this year has been stunning. But champ ? not really in my book. He stole Lorenzo's title with this move. Casey had a similarly valid gripe against Rossi's move, though that was less extreme......and all he got was a "moaner" reputation for his troubles. Lorenzo showed great restraint and character in not kicking up more of a fuss about it at the time, in my opinion. ...probably wary of a similar fate to Casey. Also, the whole story might have been very different if Ducati had been in the mix at the front this season. Marquez only really needed to beat his team mate, and Jorge, to claim the title. On the other hand, his skill on the bike is certainly that of a very worthy potential champion. But in my opinion, Jorge has shown the full champion's colours this year with his dogged determination to compete (with good grace) under any circumstances. I suspect he has earned many more admirers in the process.
Champ. Clearly the champ. IMO and that of Dorna, this move at Laguna didn't gain him any significant advantage, in fact it probably slowed him down. If you watch the move, Rossi forces him off, who then too goes off the track, therefore no advantage for either rider. What would you suggest, that they both give up places to those behind? A DQ for one corner in a race of over 70 miles? Now if he kept doing this lap after lap after lap, then you could pull him, but this was clearly a racing incident and MM deserves to be the champ. I could bring up the bullshit that was Phillip Island where he didn't deserve to be black flagged, but that's another thread
I think you'll find Matt he rode round the outside of Rossi giving himself no option but to leave the track , then gained an unfair advantage , not cricket old boy. Love his aggression but don't want to see a supermoto race . Rossi's move on Stoner was borderline but still illegal due to leaving the race track , this was so far off line he was between drain covers , never seen them on the racing line before.
I have no doubt that he's another VR. Such talent and aggression at 20. No nerves (that showed anyway) on the last race when he could have lost a seasons work. That photo is amazing. We've all seen the video footage but I've never seen a still shot before that clearly shows just how far he was off the circuit, and at what speed?

Let's not lose sight of the fact Marquez is only champion this year because Honda got the rules changed and put him on a factory bike. If it had been 2012 he'd have started in a satellite team on a customer bike and we know they don't have the performance to consistently challenge. Aggression has played it's part in racing for many years and I won't forget Biaggi or Melandry but it needs to be under control and not a loose cannon like that last bend punt against Lorenzo early in the season. No doubting he has talent but he's still a little sh*t IMO. Andy
Let's not forget that the rookie rule was a pile of shit anyway, and only lasted, what, 2 or 3 seasons? In my opinion, if you think Marquez should be docked points for that one move, then how many should Lorenzo be docked for the several dodgy overtakes he made in the last two rounds, bumping and barging both Marquez and Pedrosa - far more intent in those moves...

It doesn't matter what anyone thinks, he IS the champion. He beat the others, be it a better bike (what? better than Pedrobots?) or pushing the rules to and beyond the limit (What? like Lorenzo never has and Rossi never did until he lost it?). Look at all the top men on bikes or cars, on track they are different, they have to be cos being a nice fair guy doesn't cut it. He deserves to be champ because he has brought something new to the table in how a Moto GP bike can be ridden. He might be ruthless and push the envelope, thank god for that in this era of corporate dummies. OGR
Champ. He brought youthful hoonery and rode with a careless abandon that raised my spirits. I loved the 125's and 250's and now the Moto2&3. (especially moto3). Kid made the series watchable.
