Power Commander for the 996

  1. Rooting around in my garage i found a spare 1.6M ECU complete with a 916 senna chip inside. Now thats handy. Good to have spares.

The PCIII is piss easy to fit but deffo get it dyno'd. I fitted mine but left it unplugged (kept ECU plugged in) until i got it to a dyno.

  2. You can fit it and load a zero map until the dyno and it will run the same as without.

When I first had my 916 mapped (after engine mods) I used a PC3 as that was the best/only way available at the time and it made good power, however it would occasionally splutter on the transition from steady to open throttle at certain revs and under certain conditions, as if a sensor wasn't picking up properly - I don't know why but it never did it before fitting the PC3 and it hasn't done it since I removed it and had the ECU mapped by CJS.

  3. I can report fitting the commander on the Supplied Maps DOES work better than stock. Map 705-501 is the dogs doo dahs on my bike it has smoothed the throttle out and taken away the lumpy bits. Very much an improvement. Fully intend to have it fully mapped next spring. Ride safe Guys Ken.:upyeah:

  4. Moved to Superbike

  5. Other alternative is the FIM twin injector chip (UM191 I believe), I've been running this chip for four years now and is a marked improvement over the standard and DP chips. No flat spots or stutters at all.

  6. Super GD, if I were you I'd forget the PC and take a ride accross to Peterborough and get Mark to sort you out with one of his full custom dyno tuned maps. I have no connection/affiliation with them but I can highly recommend BSD Performance – The home of motorcycle performance tuning, Mark has made my Hyper ride like a totally differant bike.

  7. Ive used bsd since about 1997 for stuff and can highly recommend them also. Mark is always honest and certainly knows Ducati bikes inside out.

  8. I've got a PCIII with the 996R ECU for big bore pipes. Had the map set up on the Dyno, and it improved the bike noticeably. It ironed out the flat spot, and they also corrected a rich spike, and a lean spike on the existing map. Don't forget to tell them to switch on the fuel pump accelerator driver too when they do the mapping.

  9. Anyone played around with the settings for the fuel pump accelerator on a 996S, and got any suggestions for values for Throttle Sensitivity, Engine Revolutions and % Fuel Increase.

Believe I've got a pretty good fuel map loaded already, but want to see if the fuel pump accelerator makes a difference. Think it will, but just need some advice on good base settings.

  10. Send an email to Chris Kelly at head office America. He may be able to help you, He is great Guy and knows his stuff. If you have a dyno printout send it to him and he may give you some numbers to input/ try. Regards Ken.

  11. Yeah I have a PC111USB on my 916SPS with P8 ECU ,Full Akrapovic system and bigger airbox etc etc.I got it on dyno at JHP and custom map .

I removed it for a while and bike felt like it had its bollox chopped off.I have found the PC with dyno and custom map makes better more instant power down low on my bike.I could even feel the difference riding my bike up the ramp from workshop to customer carpark.Much much better. On the open roads it pulls like a train and then goes mental from about 6000 rpm upwards.

As long as I have my 916sps ill have a PC fitted for sure.

  12. Had a PC3 fitted after an engine build so can't say it individual change, but when it lost it's map and reverted to the standard one in base memory it felt like I'd snapped a belt and it sounded terrible. I returned it, sold the replacement and had the ecu reprogrammed. Lost no power but much smoother throttle control. It'll all I'd ever do in future.
