  7. You'll love it, the riding the racing the social and the laughs. We couldn't get tickets this year was really looking forward to it grrrr....

  8. Me three. Never been but cant wait.

  9. Well if the weather behaves, you are in for a treat. If it doesn't, I don't envy the campers. I first went with my tent in 1995, and my 4th and final year under canvas was '98 when it rained for 7.5 days out of the 10 I was there. For my 18th TT I am in Douglas from Fri 1st to Sun 10th with my usual Homestay hosts, been there since '99.
Any questions - feel free to ask.
I would suggest that all virgins should get the 1:50000 OS map. Keeping up with your mate who knows where he is going isn't always possible, and when roads are closed for racing or other incidents, the map will be worth its weight in petrol.

  10. Nice one mate, top tip... I rely on I phone maps alot but not sure the coverage will be upto much over there...

  11. i took my supersport over for the first time last year, mega time, going this year with my little lad on foot! not sure how this will work

  12. After many years of going on the bike, I flew over last year and being without a bike wasn't a problem. As long as you get yourself organised, the local bus service works well to get you round the circuit. Cabs are available too, but the kind and generous locals will often stop if you fancy hitching. From a sightseeing perspective, you have the electric and steam trains too. Also worth spending a day watching from the grandstand to get all the start and pit action. Dunno if next time will be back on 2 wheels, but to be honest I would have no problem in going again without the bike.

  13. I've got my accommodation sorted! A nice home stay in Ramsey with somewhere to park the bike. Roll on 2nd June!

  14. Got an OS map, with the course, access road, campsite, photo points and places to visit all marked in different colour marker pens. Very pretty!

  15. In addition to the Access Road, there are several crossing points which may be openend up between races or during weather delays. St Ninian's crossroads (just after the Start/Finish) at the top of Bray hill is one of them, another is at Sulby crossroads between Ballaugh and Ramsey. There are probably others if you have a search around, and they can be useful for moving around to get to a different viewpoint, or getting nearer to your base if racing is going to continue late in the day. I have known days when weather has caused long delays and the organisers make full use of the road closure orders, and the roads don't re-open until 9pm by which time it is chilly, and everyone is in even more of a hurry to get back to base for their evening meal/drinking. So knowing the shortcuts can make the difference between being at the front/back of the queue at the restaurant/chippy/bar.
Talking of road closures, Please bear in mind that due to the large number of traffic cones on the Mountain Road from Ramsey Hairpin to Creg ny Baa, that section closes 30 minutes+ before the rest of the course, and opens 30 mins+ after.

  16. If you ain't been before then you may not know that it's worth taking an AM radio so you can keep up to date with news and race progress when away from the areas with loudspeakers.

  17. Tpo stuff chaps, thanks for that.

  18. I booked mine this week too, going 31st may until 6th June. Will be my 9th trip. My tip would be watch out for the peeler hiding behind the lamppost on the left as u turn right over sulky bridge. Asshole there virtually 24/7. That's 1 thing they are strict on all over the island, speed limits, be warned its 30 in a 30, zero tolerance. Flip side of that coin is you get 2 ring it's neck over the mountain. Loads of memories from the TT, sum good, sum not so good. High sided a brand new r1 in 2004 on way out of gooseneck, woke up in nobles hospital almost an hour after the event. Some great eating houses, highly recommend the hop garden, check it out on Facebook. We have home stay in glenvine, right on edge of track so weather isn't an issue although it does play havoc with racing so fingers crossed for glorious sunshine. Good vantage points IMO include braking point into sulby bridge, gooseneck as you can see down through waterworks, behind the wall on outside of the track just about 50yds back up track on way into hillberry and of course cronkyvoddy right at the end of the straight high up on the bank on the left. There's thousands of good spots but they are just a few. Don't waste time at bray hill, you are to far away from action and it's very very repetitive. Get out of the towns, rhencullen is ok, ginger hall not bad either or below road level through parts of glen Helen but you will have to park at glen Helen and walk back through the fields. In summary, if there's a grandstand seating area or a pub, it's invariably to far back from the action for safety reasons thus crap. If you want the hairs to stand on the back of your neck.......get outta bed at 6 and head for your vantage points / hole in the hedge and sit there. Enough said, I love the place, could go on about it all night. Have fun guys, maybe bump into you over there, perhaps a meeting or a run will be organised by someone closer to the time.....suppose I better get a bike organised now. Best wishes all, Stuart.
