second big service - outside warranty - please post your prices and recommendations.

  1. Just starting thread for anyone getting their 2nd big service done where belts need to be done, would you please be so kind in recording how much you paid, where it was and any other top tips/issues ?

Aware that some of us (including me) may not be able to afford 'proper' ducati dealer prices and would be good to have some good alternatives and recommendations but also prices from normal ducati dealers.

From my side, I am planning on doing the minor servicing myself at oval motorcycle center in London (do it yourself backed by mechanics) which works out at £22 p hour plus consumables (which I haven't worked out yet).

So I reckon for my next minor service it will be :

£22 x 3 (doing it myself - could be faster no doubt) = £ 66 plus consumables (TBC anyone?)
+ charge from dealer to update computer grrr...still no way of doing it ourselves (anyone has an updates on this?)

    bugs

  2.
  3. Do not skimp on service. An essential part of maintaining the right resale value on a Ducati is the " full dealer service history"
Does not necessarily have to be a main dealer, but also a rated independent , like Baines Racing Silvertone.

  4. How about £450 Bugs? Last November at Sycamores Uppingham. It was the 15k and belts were changed and shims checked.

They have since given up their Ducati dealership but I believe they are still set-up to do the MTS1200. Obviously pays to get it done during Winter when they are quiet and likely to offer a lower labour rate. If you are prepared to travel it can save £100's.

  5. MD Racing in Walton On Thames (Surrey) is great.
Looked after my 998S until I was awakened to the MTS1200s.

Mike is about to have the pleasure of my 2nd 15k SERVICE....Am i the first of this forum?

    OK. I've made an edit.
    Mikes Guesstimate for mine is
"full service inc all parts and labour will be approx £600 plus vat ."
I've always trusted Mike with my Ducati(s), so if its a couple of hundred more than someone up North then sobeit. Note this price is a guess, he may find more wrong or less to do, but I think this is a fair price.

Now I've seen VEETWIN has done 12K this year...I need to get out more.
I agree and blame Ducati for making such an enjoyable bike. I've done more miles on it this year than I've done on my 998 in the 10+ years I've had that:upyeah:.

  6. Just had a shocking bill of £808 for first 15K service at Snells. This included a set of front brake pads for £50, but other than that it was just the designated service items. I've always been pleased with Snells, but from other bills people have posted, I should have shopped around - certainly will next time.

  7. Here is a link to Ducati Glasgow's N4'11 service plan. It looks like you'd be paying £451 plus for the major service

  8. Not quite - I did 32K miles on my 2010 model and have almost 12k miles on my 2013 MTS.
I blame Ducati! If it wasn't so good I wouldn't do so many miles!

  9. Just go through the service list. Anything like brake pads, and basic stuff like that. Do it your self. Then leave the bigger stuff to them.

They will quickly check the things you did and will save you £20 odd quid here and there.

  10. To me that sounds about right for a main dealer.

  11. I'd take the ride up there to save the cash and spend it on petrol, beer and an overnight in...... Edinburgh:biggrin:

  13. I think Ducati owners pay far to much for servicing, Main dealer labour charges etc. Its not just Ducati that are a rip off. Okay main dealer service in the 2 year warranty. But after that independant ducati service. Pro-Vtwins, are good. Snells are to expensive, £800.00 for a service!!

  14. 30K Mile Service at MD Racing.

OK...I've had the service and I was charged
    £377.31 for parts
£540 for labour, both plus VAT.
    Total £1100.76

Of this you can deduct £10 for relays for another bike and £114.80 for the damaged pulley(s).
The only extra was rear pads at £18.67 (albeit I'd only changed them 1000 miles ago).
He'd cleaned and re-oiled the Air Filter, something I'd already said I'd done before I brought it in.
So take off another hour for changing the two pulley(s) and I think I'm being generous here.

So the adjusted bill is £728.84+VAT, he guessed at £600+VAT; so close enough?

I'm disappointed with Mikes work on this service and to be fair probably the last service as well.
I won't be recommending his services again and I've taken the time to remove all my previous recommendations. He has lost that connection with this customer, may be there is something else going on? He's not responded to my issues ,so that's the end for me.
Mike has now called me back and left a message, but we've not managed to talk yet.

Very disappointed that he said the gear indication problem would require a gear box strip down or could be a dash problem or even my nonstandard rear light. Utter bollox.
Just a gear position sensor. Takes 20 minutes to change.

  15. another reason mine will probably go at its second anniversary

  16. I had my 15k and 30k service at CMW Motorcycles in Chichester, paid £700 for the first and £680 for the second and was happy with the work. I am at 42k now so I'll be shopping for my 45k service before the end of this touring year. CMW have stopped being a Ducati dealer but are still qualified service agents. It's just that you can't test-ride anything sexy while you wait anymore!

  17. Holly crap, being a 'tighter than a ducks arse on a wet day' Yorkshire man, I better start shopping around. Ive done 1200 miles this week on mine during my hols just 'pottering' around Gods fair county.

  18. I will be just shy of 15k when I come back from Europe. I will want to sell though and not sure if it's worth doing the service before hand or not...

  19. The expensive services are 15 and 30K miles.
the interims are 1/2 that price or less.

  20. Any buyer who is savy would factor the pending service into the purchase price, so you'll probably pay for it one way or another.
