All the major biking sport websites are saying the Michael Dunlop will be taking 2014 off after failing to secure a deal he was happy with. Baring in mind its still over 9 months until the TT, I'm sure he'll be on a bike of some kind, probably self financed
I was surprised to read in the MCN that Dunlop rode his own Micheal Dunlop Racing Hondas in the Supersport and Superstock races at the TT this year so riding his own bikes for the Superbike and Senior shouldn't be that big a step, should it ? Andy
TT forum states he is taking time out for personal reasons. Yamaha tried very hard to sign him but he would not commit.
Seen his post of FB, says he wasn't prepared to ride at all if the bike and package wasn't perfect for him. Seems short sighted to me
I think he's got a huge chip on his shoulder and frankly wouldn't want him in my team as I'm sure he's bloody hard work.
He is, but he's also a grumpy twat It's the way he walks around and just grunts at everybody and seems full of anger. John m, Guy Martin and plenty of others are also winners of multiple road race titles but they don't take themselves as seriously. the boy needs to chill out a bit and try a smile every so often
I think the boy's got a lot to live up to what with Joey and all, but the difference between him and William are like chalk and cheese. I know which one I'd rather have as a team mate. Bit like Foggy really, only not as good.
I met him at the MCN London show earlier this year. Yes he was away from the pressures of the track, but he was there drinking a milkshake watching some of the action on the big screen. He was perfectly amicable to a total stranger coming up and saying hello. At the track I'm sure he a totally different animal. Personally, if I was that good, I'd be the same
Well something tells me that if he was 'that good' and a little easier to get on with he'd be riding next year. either teams aren't prepared to make him number one and he's throwing his toys out the pram or teams aren't prepared to offer him the money he wants and he's throwing his toys out the pram. if he can win multiple TT's in one year then he's good, so IMO it doesn't take Colombo to figure out there's clearly something else that doesn't sit right with the teams, otherwise they'd simply put the correct offers in front of him surely.
seemed nice enough in the beer tent at the TT and seemed pretty relaxed in the pitstops (was a few down from him).
at the end of the day he is bloody excellent doing a risky sport at a track where if you get it wrong 8 times out of 10 your going home wearing a wooden overcoat. if its financially related..... if i were him id want every penny I could get too as they have short careers and are poorly paid if its bike related.... hes a winner hes not going there to roll in 2nd or 3rd on a shit bike guy martin.... he just needs a top ride but since hes lacking wins hes gonna struggle to secure
I wonder if it's control-related? he wants to run the team his way? (presumably the deal with honda was that he didn't.). PR issues? One thing about Micky D is that he looks fearsome. If he popped up to repair your victorian steam thrunging-iron, you'd probably run away...
Its probably more a case of he's used to having things his own way, which is fine when youre on a privateer machine. I very much doubt he wanted all the PR gumph that comes along with a full factory seat. Saying that, on that course, like Macau, you need to be happy and you need to be confident on whatever youre sat on. Doubt is the last thing you need
Hasn't Michael got the same dilemma as Guy Martin......'keeping it real' and 'out the back of a van' doesn't beat Tuxworth's Hondas does it.... they're like Trigger's broom
Guy Martin is a god... A mad azz one but a god none the least.... The Dunlops are also clearly awesome... One thing that gets me though is why TT racers don't become racing legends on the track? McGuiness for instance...
