Front mudguard rubbing

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by freshage, Nov 20, 2013.

  1. Well, found my first 'issue'. Fairly easily remedied I hope, but something has worn which can cause issues down the road.

The front fender doesn't seem to sit properly, it's rubbing against the wheel, which in turn must be bobbing about as it's rubbed through the shell of the brake cable! Luckily it's only gone through to the membrane, a quick fix on that front is black tape. And I will put it where it should be, the guy who fit this, as I think it is, extended mud guard didn't put the brake cable 'infront' of the plate and instead put it behind (outside if you see what I mean). Which has caused the rubbing.

Anyway! What can I do to stop the rubbing of the mud guard?

    Thanks! DSC02766.jpg DSC02768.jpg DSC02771.jpg DSC02774.jpg

  2. Is there any movement in the mounts to allow adjustment?

  3. Mounts? The 4 screws at the front are pretty solid, the 2 screws (one of which you can see in the second picture down from the top) are also solid. I can't see anywhere that I can either put washers or tighten to adjust. It just seems the design simply makes it rub against the wheel...

  4. ...Yep it's a crap design. My 2010 model rub too. Ive post a thread somewhere on the site as a fix for the problem. I am fitting my 2010 extended mudguard to my 2013 GT this weekend. I will let you know how it goes!:upyeah:

  5. Had the same issue with mine, but to make it even worse I had a fender extender fitted as well (Riders Cardiff).
So had to take that off, now looking at having an Ilmberger mudguard instead as that seems to be as long as the two piece Ducati guard, and fitting that with an extender. Have to say though the Multi guards is a really crap design

  6. I will work out a way to bodge it :)

Might simply be a case of putting a the black part the other side of where the screws are.

  7. +1 Not the best bit of design! My carbon extender is getting worn away.

Let me know if anyone finds a good solution as I don't want to have to buy a new mudguard (that may not be any better?).

  8. I can't see anyway of stopping it, I had a quick look but won't find a decent fix until this weekend. The only thing I can think of is putting a strenghting bar along the underside. But that would require fabricating one and I don't have the tools... Or... A wire frame that goes from the front 2 bolts along and under the fender and onto the back 2 bolts. Should be easily done. I will get some wire and get bending this weekend.

That way, it might push it a inch of which it's sagging at the moment.

I've wrapped my cable in black tape for now. Which should give me more time until I work out a way to stop the rubbing. But I think I might need a new cable...

  9. Not looked at mine, but how about elongating the holes at the front of the fender so it can be 'tilted' back and therefore lift the front?

  10. Not sure what you mean?

  11. When I changed a tyre profile on another bike, I made the fixing hole a little larger so I could have vertical movement

  12. I fitted a fender extender and found the cable/ pipe routed like yours, and the extension bit was loose,
there are 2 small lugs at the sides that wedge in and engage to prop the back bit up, it is secure and has clearance now,
yours looks like its been moving around and may be worn where the side lugs fit to the main guard,,

  13. Old 2010 mudguard with fender extender fitted to my present 2013 GT....easy fit with plenty of clearance!

  14. Does anyone else's fender extender seem too heavy for the mudguard? The rear of my mudguard seems loose since fitting and I'm getting a clunking when when travelling over bumps

  15. This is what I've come to. I'm going to get a cylinder head guard and a radiator guard and have away with the fender extender. It's cack.

  16. Like I mentioned earlier, have a look at an Ilmberger carbon mud guard. It appears to be as long front to back, as the Ducati two piece's together debacle so should take the weight of an fender extender far better. My original rear section of the mudguard seems too heavy for the under side lugs at the rear of the front section. Real crap design !

  17. I have the Ilmberger carbon front guard. Definitely longer on the back piece than the original, no need for a fender extender and a good fit
