how starstruck do you have to be to allow that to happen, how do you get two people in the same room that are in to that. cant imagine theres a fix for it. dont think there is a prison term long enough for it. drugs?
All about cognitive distortions, offenders generally have to go through a cycle of offending patterns and justifications, the spiral of abuse aka finklehors model. fundamentally they are sexually attracted to children, and to commit these offences they have to give themselves permission. Most offenders know what they do is wrong (bar psychopaths and sadists) and therefore take some time to offend. If you look at how he progressed from getting 16 year olds to dress as school girls through to the ultimate sin, the rape of a baby it took it him some time. The only things these offenders have in common is they want to sexually offend and they do not want to get caught.
Bit of both. I reckon some, like this one, are born like it. And i don't think its that they want to offend, its that they see not much wrong in it but know society do sick whatever definition you use. Chemical castration the only recourse, incurable
Therein lays the rub. Some disclose that for as long as they can remember they have had sexual thoughts towards children, whilst others find themselves locked into a fantasy life that revolves around a sexual experience from their youth. Far too complex to wave a magic wand and say all offenders are this, hence no real stereotypes. And no I do not believe they can be cured, they may have coping strategies, invariably though they have very little victim empathy and state the reason they will not re-offend is the consequences (to them not the victims).
Chemical castration does not work, you are not taking away the desire, the cognitive distortions or urges. All you are doing is stopping them from being able to use their genitals to offend. That then can lead to frustration and further cognitive distortions and the potential then is for different types of abuse to occur.
There is nothing sexual about a child. Nothing at all. Do the abusers have an illness? Probably, but then they know their feelings, clearly they know its wrong and should therefore address these issues before they take it too far. But, im sure its not as simple as that
I managed these guys from 2007 , I was so disturbed by the fact they were back in the community I qualified in the forensic psychology and risk assessment of child sex offenders with CEOP. This enabled me to carry out forensic interviews with offenders and gave me a massive insight into their offending patterns and behaviours and allowed to understand what triggers they may have and to intervene and get them locked up before they reoffended. The majority of offenders will sexualise children within a fantasy world before ever approaching a child they have to do this to start to build up justification this is reinforced generally by masturbation a d known as motivation . They have to overcome their own internal inhibitors, whats stopping them, then external inhibitors so external circumstances that stops them then finally resistance from the victim. Unfortunately the rise of technology has led to an increase in the ability for offenders to network with each other, record and share the abuse and even to minimise the likelihood of being caught. All offenders groom others this is fundamentally the building of a relationship to allow the offence to take place and get away with it and quite often will encompass not only the victim but those protective factors around a child eg parents/carers. Quite often these parents can be viewed almost as much as victims as the child the offence has taken place against. It would be interesting to interview the mothers of these kids in a few years to understand how well they had been groomed. Sorry I could go on and on and hope this isn't too much nor to boring.
The govt announced that google etc would stop access to indecent images of child abuse in a big blaze of publicity. Political vote winning bollocks. No offender will use search engines as they will not find what they want, the majority use peer to peer networks, file sharing sites etc; they groom each other on line and exchange images, they can then gain the trust of other offenders and that's how they access live abuse sites etc. offenders are obviously incredibly secretive and search engine companies etc really play no role. The Internet allows the facilitation to groom to offend and to do it with the least risk. Police and CEOP do infiltrate sites and do stand alone sting operations.
There must be a degree of inbuilt behaviour, as to physically be in a state of arousal when presented with a one year old child must require some degree of non conscious interest. The "hang 'em" daily mail mentality is of course cretinous, we can't undo the wrongs committed, and of course due punishment must be handed down, but unlocking the secrets of how these minds function would help with identifying risks far earlier and removing these people from the opportunity to offend far sooner. If this is an illness as much as a crime, identifying and effectively treating those vulnerable must be better for everyone, not just the inevitable future victims. I'm not sure anyone chooses to be a paedophile any more than anyone chooses to be gay, or for that matter male or female. The criminal act is to act on the urges, so surely better to cure the urges in the first place.
