848 vs. 848 Evo: what's what?

  1. I have been lurking after Ducatis for a while. I eve posted on this forum a year ago to learn more about the touring capabilities of the Streetfighter.

anyway, plans changed and bike replacement got moved further down the line, I even went for another Euro tour on my 20,000 miles R1.

I am still lusting after something V-twiney though and the 848, being the lovely looking thing that it is, appeals.

what are the main difference between the regular one and Evo? Is it worth spending a bit more for the latest?

1098 also appeals but it'll all come down to test rides.

    cheers.

  2. Evo has a few more ponies I think but sacrifices a little torque (or vice versa) plus mono block calipers, corse edition gets a quick shifter too from memory.

Saying that you'll probably jump on a 1098 and love the power!

  3. Yeah, Evo has high compression and different cam profile, 60mm throttles so more power but a slightly more top-end motor (all things relative, it still has TONS of grunt!

The Evo has a steering damper and brembo monoblocks but if u get a 'corse se' u get Ohlins shock, quick shifter a bigger fuel tank and traction control.

Tbh I personally wouldn't expect to feel masses of difference between 848 and evo, in both cases a 14t front sprocket is an important modification to stop the bike 'chugging' all the time at low revs

  4. Evo is better

  5. I would suspect so but tbh I would think it's all about getting the right example, if two immaculate bikes are separated by £1500+ I would get the standard bike I think! the evo is just an evolution? I will say I haven't ridden a standard 848 I just don't suspect that they are night and day different.

  6. I have ridden both. The brakes are better, the engine feels a little different and you get steering damper which can be handy on bumpy UK roads. Paint is worse tho, seems far less deep in lustre as the original 848

  7. To be honest after the best part of 3 years ownership of both models, I would say that as standard, the brakes and damper are the main differences on the road. Brakes on the evo really are much more powerful. I never thought the damper was needed on the 848 but having one on the evo improves the ride. On balance it depends on your budget, but certainly going for a sprocket mod will improve both the original and the evo by a long way. I went for the rear sprocket mod so can only give an opinion on that, as opposed to the gearbox sprocket mod. Highly recommended.

As far as the bike is concerned, all I can say is that I've been riding for quite a long time, and the 848 is the only bike I've ever had two of. Make of that what you will

  8. I has an 848 Evo!... It's awesome!. Loads of fun, but lots different from Jap il4's...

  9. The Evo has evolved.

  10. All as Ken says, and def the 41 tooth rear sprocket. Also had 2 848's 08 model for 4 years and now 848 Evo Corse SE :upyeah:

  11. tbh I wish i'd got a corse se I would have liked the quick shift and tc. But, the evo is an amazing machine, you don't need anymore power on the road and I find on track because it makes it's power a little higher up the rev range than the 1098 it's an easier bike to ride, I'd be quicker round a track on the 848 than a bigger engine bike, well unless it had tc I suppose !

And the brakes on the evo are mental, I got wrist ache and forearm pump on track way before the brakes got tired ! but then I am old and tired these days

All depends on budget but you couldn't go wrong with any of the 848's I reckon.
