  9. Today i cleaned all the terminals and wiring to the battery on my non-starting ST2. Then, like magic, its started. Phew, it starts every time now. Amazing what a load of crud on the battery can do .

  13. Get yourself a slave boy then. Problem solved. Theres likely someone weird enough on here.

  14. Thought about going back to work on Friday after 2 weeks 'forced' (use it or lose it holiday) and my boss asking if I had a nice time off! Lets see...father in law died on first day (knew it was coming) and spent just about every day sorting arrangements.

If he asks (he is that stupid), he is likely to receive either my notice or a smack in the mouth which will end in my sacking...same result either way.

Still I have to see my GP on Thursday as she is worried about my stress levels so it might be a moot point.

  20. I did the necessary for a new Swiss biometric passport this morning. Simples.

I had to fill out a very short form on line, then ask for an appointment. I was able to choose whatever time and day suited me.
Showed up at the passport office - brand spanking new place in the centre of Lausanne - about 5 mins late. No problem. I had to take a ticket from a machine with a number on it, for those with appointments. There was another button for those without. Waited about 5 mins. Handed over my old passport and ID card, which were then punched. Told to sit in a little photo booth (there was one per piece of partitioned counter). The guy behind the counter operated the machine to take my photo, fingerprints, and signature. He was extremely cheerful and pleasant throughout.

Then he gave me a bill to pay at the payment counter, which I did, and that was that. Passport should take less than a week to arrive.

The Swiss are quite keen on bureaucracy, but they tend to do bureaucracy really well. You always have to pay, but they make the process about as pleasant as it could be. The people who staff these offices are normally very human and laid back, dressed very informally, and you can chat and joke with them. They seem to like it.
