  1. 748/916/996/998 rubber Tank/Airbox seal query

    Hi All

recently ordered a replacement tank/air box seal for my 998s ducati part # 79110411B

unfortunately one of the nipples is slightly in the wrong place,

assuming this was a manufacturing/labelling fault motorapido sent me a 2nd one which i can see whiteout opening it is the same

comparing the new to old part, it looks like the seal is made with the nipple in the both places in the factory, then the relevant one is snipped off before bagging and numbering

my airbox is carbon so i guess it was replaced by previous owner, i'm not sure if its MS productions or an aftermarket item off hand

my question is does anyone know what the correct (or other 748/9*6 tank airbox seal) part number would be?.
MR are not sure, neither are they inclined to send me expensive parts for tiral and error (which is fair enough)

    any ideas?

    thanks

    ali

  2. I've got a carbon box on my 996 and just used foam rubber draft excluder type stuff stuck down with hot melt glue. Works great and costs bugger all when you find it in a drawer at work.

  3. Maybe they sent you a 478 one

996 and 998 air boxes are different. Maybe the seals are too.

  4. doh !! thx FE

are the air boxes interchangeable between 996-998? I Didn't think they were.

digging through the parts catalogues i have found 2 different codes for this seal

79110411A for which has been superseded by part 79110201A
    fits
    Ducati 748 `99
    Ducati 748 `99 SPS
    Ducati 748 SP, Biposto
    Ducati 916 `94
    Ducati 916 Monop.-Senna `95-
    Ducati 916 SP `96
    Ducati 916 `98
    Ducati 996 Bip./Monop. `99
    Ducati 996 SPS

    79110411B
    fits
    Ducati 748 R `00
    Ducati 996 R
    Ducati 998 S FE R

its possible whoever made/fitted my airbox drilled it for the other pattern seal for whatever reason

so I think i may have found the answer but would appreciate if anyone who has an accessible seal from anything other than a 748R, 996R or any form of 998 to check to see if the cut nipple on theirs (their should be only one) is within 1cm of the join or approx 4-5cm away from the join (as per my pic above)

    thanks in advance

    ali

  5. The air boxes are definitely different but having never bought a seal for my 998 I can't confirm whether the seals are different to the 748 - 9*6 series. Have you got the seal in the right position on the air box?

It looks like these seals are now modified, as you mention, as the last time I bought a 748 seal there were now bits snipped off it.

  6. wht don't you use what you have and just drill a new hole for the nipple thats in a different place..the previous hole won't hurt anything...

  7. I got bored of trying to work the nipples...Feckers kept snapping off!
    I used superglue!

  8. Plenty of silicone and don't pull the nips too hard with pliers.

You've never complained before ...

  10. You have a gentle touch

Also it is worth enlarging the holes slightly.

  12. Make sure you lube your nipples lightly before trying to fit them, it makes it much easier

  13. Christ I think you boys need to get out the house more

  14. What a bloody brilliant idea. I just bought a new seal kit for my 998 I think I am going to buy draft excluder instead easier to fit.
