  1. I just fitted this tonight, no more fumbling around looking for the key come fuelling time, was easy to fit and cost about £38 posted from the states.
Now when its raining my key can stay safely tucked away. Maybe would have been better in black? View attachment 3010 photo.jpg

  2. Na, you bought the right one :upyeah:

  3. That's the right colour IMHO.

  4. Could we have details of where you purchased it from cheers

  5. Details are here....... eBay - The UK's Online Marketplace

Or search Ducati multistrada fuel cap on fleabay.

Works about about 38 squid, he marks it as personal gift so no huge tax to pay.

  6. Like that - need one White bike so needs to be black I think.

  7. Just ordered one but didn't give me the choice for Black or Silver. A bit annoying.

Maybe I'll get confirmation and be able to mail them back.

  8. I've got one of these exactly the same going spare if anyone is interested - £30:00 including mainland UK postage.

  9. i bought one of these and then resold it. From memory there isnt anywhere to fit the overflow pipe?

  10. WHAT! Blimey, talk about poor timing - that'll be 40 quid down the drain then.

Classic if it appears too good to be true, it is!

    Bugger.

  11. Don't panic, I had mine modified so it now has 2 breather outlet that feed into the original breather pipes via a small pipe so sure you can do something similar

  12. Obvious questions: who did it, how & how much?

    Ta

  13. Dont panic, dont panic!!

I had the very same thoughts, where do the pipes etc go? There will be no instructions with it, I must send him an email and see if he can include some.

Anyway, this is what I did, if it goes pear shaped with anyone else then dont hold me responsible!

Undo all 6 bolts holding on the fuel cap, before lifting off extinguish the tab thats hanging out your mouth.
Lift cap up gently and there is two pipes, one either side, prise them off with a thin screwdriver taking care not to scratch the tank, now lift cap off.

You are now left with a plastic tank with a hole in the middle, and a tiny wee hole to the side.

The big hole is obvious, its the inlet for the tank, the tiny wee hole is for the tank to breathe, allowing expansion etc on a hot day.

The wee hole is no longer needed, it serves no purpose as the expansion and overfill drain out the same pipe on the new one, I put a little bit of silicon on the top, this may not stick as it may react to the petrol so i will monitor this and may even put a small s/s screw in instead, this can then be taken out when putting the old one back on when selling eventually.

I put the new caps outlet breather pipe to the right hand side pipe, now when you fill the bike up on its sidestand the petrol is going to go to the left of the tank, but I put the breather to the right because then the cap lines up straight when tightened, this should not be a problem if not filled too much, but I probably will as I always like to fill it up as much as possible, have to see how it goes.

So once the breather is in, tiny hole filled up, put the two new rubber washers around the large hole, place the cap down, align the washers and bolt holes, pop the new bolts in and tighten.

It takes one and a half revolutions to open the cap, so I put a tiny punch mark in the front of the lift off cap when it was fitted, now when I take the cap off all I need to do is put the punch mark toward the rear of the bike then when I tighten the cap the punch mark is at the front, I think this will help to avoid cross threading the cap and make it quicker to pop the cap back on.

I think that is it all covered, any questions then ask away, cheers.

  14. Thanks for that Once mine arrives I'll give it a go.

If you could let us know if the silicone holds and how the over filling thing goes, it'd be helpful.

    Thanks again.

  15. Since they are made in Southampton it seems a bit daft to buy them in the US....here they are on Oberons website.....they are £79.99 tho, so I guess yours are Chinese copies........the Oberon ones have the right breathers......

  16. Hi, when i bought my cap last year there was no alternative, I even spoke to Oberon at the NEC and suggested doing a cap, they didnt at the time.
There cap certainly looks good quality and I like the fact that it covers all holes and breathers etc.

So good quality and no instructions...£38
Great Quality and all bases covered...££80

You pays yer money and you take yer chance!!!

Good now that there is another company doing it, I also like there colour choices.

  17. The thing with those Andy is that you still need to 'Unlock' them, so a 'key' to get out and lose. I like the thought of not having to faff about getting a key out of a pocket.

I'm hoping that everyone pretty much expects a fuel cap to be locked nowadays

I wish I'd seen the Oberon ones before I ordered, I think I'd have stumped up the extra for a perfect swap out + they're very pretty

  18. Andy, oh suits you sir, those are lovely. But......agree with t965m re key still....where could you put that thingy?

  19. I don't quite understand this thread. Multistradas have an electrically operated automatic fuel cap, so you don't need a key (apart from the remote transponder key) - or at least mine does, and it works perfectly. Why would you need to buy a special non-locking cap?
