As this seems something general , i put it here and not on the project thread. When steve started on the engine build, he noticed that the bolts in the frame/airbox HAD COME OFF! now , this is not a place where you expect bolts to loosen that much that they rattle from their screws, is there... perhaps time for a check up and a tip for your dealer?
another panni fk up ,,pitty they don't put as much locktight on them as they do the gear linkage mine had to be replaced as you could not move it even when the mechanic took it off and had it in a vice
that s what bothers me... you just can't see or feel it as those bolts are in a place no-one ever comes unless you take the engine of... and when the engine slides of, it's behind the plastic sidecovers for the electronics... shite... pritty worrying and good for a general warning in my book... and believe me : i'm not squeemish or easily discontented...
it also seemed that the engine was coming loose behind the plastic electronics holders... dear oh dear...
some one with better typing skills than me should try to get in touch with ducati ,this could cause serious harm if something comes loose properly
Mate you really have to pass this information and photos onto your dealer and I would e;mail Ducati Uk Direct this is a critical issue someone might get very badly hurt !! Jimmy 43 is correct this is a major problem THEY NEED TO KNOW
i already passed it on to my dealer in a frazing they will not be used to coming from me... i slept well . with the odd idea that i must have set a speed record for a stressed non attached engine as a frame... i know als remember thinking hearing something clunky that sounded like the engine backfiring so didn't pay it any attention.. and the running wide on exit shouldn't be to hard when you have a flexing front that lengthens your wheelbase and trail... i've already posted the full pics series on all the fora i'm active on so with a bit of luck ... Ducati should hear about it from all sides... it s also the reason im not posting this in the project thread ..
Bear in mind all the track work this year, maybe its not a surprise some have worked loose. Were any of these bolts removed etc as part of the build?
Not seen inside a Pani airbox before; a little worrying how many parts there are with the potential to break free a and disappear down the throttle bodies. Surprised critical fasteners don't use Nord-Locks or similar.
What size is that, 8mm metric-fine? I'd expect 12-14mm metric-coarse or bigger there. Considering the leverage, have a look at the thread profile of the bolts. Is it rounded? Have they slipped out of the internal thread of the engine block? Then at the end of a ride they'd be loose and consequently undo over a few more rides. What I mean is, just doing them back up probably won't stop it happening again, someone has miscalculated here. In that 3rd picture, it looks as tho one of the bolt heads has broken off.
