The problem with these people is that they only ever look ( and in most cases can only see ) about five yards in front of their car, so unless the visibility drops below five yards they never notice and don't turn the lights on...
My Honda has "auxiliary driving lights" on the front ( not "fog lights" ) which I use when driving on isolated country roads as they fill in the dark patches at the edge of the road. The problem with front lights that dazzle oncoming traffic is that they are incorrectly adjusted... The problem with rear fog lights, on the other hand, is that the brain-dead numpties that leave them on all the time have no idea how much they dazzle the person behind - or they just don't care...
The recent glut of cars with a series of white bright LEDs as running lights seriously annoy me --- as do thos bl**dy winking bicycle lights........ .................first you see me, then you don't, first you see me, then you don't......
Aren't those strips of LEDs called "Chav lights" ? I've a nasty feeling they may now be compulsory fitment though. The ones on Mercs and Audis look especially annoying to me for some reason.
My wife's A3 black edition has them, and you are right they do look chavtastic, luckily on our 2012 car they can be turned off.
Ooo we're moving on to winking lights lights. As an occasional cyclist, why the feck do they use them?! You have no way of gauging speed or distance when it flashes. No wonder they get knocked off, wankers
I always reckoned it was to attract more attention. Most cycle lights aren't very powerful and there are a lot of red lights about, on cars, on buildings, on road signs. The winking bike lights say "I am a bicycle". They flash at least once a second, you can't really pretend that the cyclist vanishes from view so that you can't see them, surely? I thought you were a sometime cyclist, Bradders?
I am. And its madness. Whether front or rear. Your light should be static. Its not fecking F1 in the rain!
Yes, DRL's (daytime running lights) are now compulsory fit on all new cars - thanks to some stupid European rules. There is no evidence whatsoever that they actually have any benefits, but there you go - when did the truth ever bother the Eurocrats? Unfortunately the law on lights on bicycles has also changed recently - they used to have to have a fixed light, but were allowed a flashing one as well. The law now allows just a flashing light... Again, stupid... I wouldn't mind if they stuck to the cycle-paths, but the suicidal idiots very rarely do - for some reason they always seem to want to ride on the road rather than use the path that has been put there specifically for their safety : or maybe that's just in Devon & Cornwall...
...its the same here. You can go for miles on a track, but the lycra-lot still love a little two abreast road action
