Well, every now and then I get vibration through the feedback and can here it. This is normally first thing in the morning or after a down pour. So it mostly due to damp/water I guess. I will replace for summer. They work for now and stop me just as well enough so will do until I get some free cash.
Anyone know if these are floating? Possibly sticky bobbin until its moved (likely rusting on when left)?
I wouldn't worry about this. As pete1950 may remember I pointed this out on his bike when we first met at the ace cafe. Mine is the same. When we had the forty or so bikes up in Aylesbury most of the mts1200 that had any wet mileage had the same. My brakes are fine. Probably a sintered and disk material issue made worse by water. Neither I nor the previous owner rode in salty conditions so that's out. Its just cosmetic. Put the 200 ducati dollars to better use, buy a cjs remap or tyres or fuel and have fun.
I wouldn't bother changing the disks for that. You new ones would be the same after another winter. Take the calipers off, carefully remove the pads and clean everything thoroughly. If the bike was used through last winter, its likely the calipers are encased in muck inside.
I've had the ABS kick in multiple times already through testing and it's certainty not that. It's as though a film of liquid is there so the pads don't make fill Co tact and then vibrate and rattle as the bike slows down. This quickly goes though after 5 mins of riding. I think this might be the best option at this stage.
I agree. Sintered pads cause that. Two different metals, in contact, cause corrosion when wet due to electrolysis. Made even worse if the water is made more conductive due to salt. If you look at the granule size on the metal in the pads it is the same size as the corrosion pits on the disk. Don’t worry they all do it (according to my very unscientific poll at the bike meet); unless you never get the disks or pads wet.
