OK, so you've swapped the ABS for carbon fibre and you've put on a carbon silencer. What else? Does anyone put serious money into these bikes to get them super-light? aftermarket swingarm? Carbon wheels? thanks
Have a look at what some of the DD lads have done over at the DSC. Min weight for race series is 154kg for the SS. Some have achieved his..............
You would be surprised how much weight saving there is in swapping some OEM bolts for stainless.....and OEM brake lines for stainless braided. .....and fitting a half fairing instead of a full fairing. AL.
Can I ask why you would bother that much with weight reduction. If you really are using every one of the hp available to you and its still not quick enough, then its got to be cheaper to sell it and buy one with a bigger engine.
I've put on a half fairing, I like the look better and it's definitely lighter. To the poster asking why bother, it's a fun bike. I also have a 95' 900SS SP and the 600ss feels far lighter and flickable. I've found that a solid 50hp is sufficient for much of the riding I do, but taking off the weight makes it more fun. I put FCR39s, upgraded the coils and a TCIP4 on it and that's made a lot of difference in the running. Plus, I like the bike. Why spoil a good thing?
Howdo!!! There is no limit to what you can lose or exchange - lighten!!! Battery. Flywheel........loads of engine internals. Headers. Ti & alloy bolts (Including Ti engine bolts). Wheels. Discs. And on and on........poor credit card
900ss ally swingarm is 2.4kg lighter than OE steel one, later wheels with the spokes that taper towards the rim save 1.7kg if you fit the pair.......a Lithium Ion battery will save you 5kg over the std one, alloy clip ons save 480g over the std ones, lighter flywheel, alloy clutch plates, junk the airbox and fit pod filters, another 2kg, alloy fairing bracket another 2.7kg, race rearsets save another kg and dump the pillion pegs, another 900g, carbon can will save you a couple of kg over std, saw anything you dont need off the frame.....put an alloy tank on, another 4kg saved, junk the dual seat and associated plastic, fit a race seat, junk the lights, get a daytime MoT...and hey presto, you have saved loads and built a DD race bike !
' the 900ss SP swingarm is lighter than the tiny 600ss one? I've got both on the shop floor at home, i'll check that..
My last years DD bike at the race before this pic, was 152Kg. It was 154Kg when this pic was taken. But you will struggle to get a road legal bike any where near to this weight.
The Yanks didn't get the 750 after '94. Instead they got a downgraded 900 half faired bike called the CR. It used the 900 engine but 750 running gear. To make the US buyers think they were getting something special they named our 900SS the SP.
It was 152kg but 154kg with you sitting on it? F-me Phil, you need to start eating something (or drinking, maybe).... AL.
