Glowing cats.

 

No cats in there there straight through . The answer is they all do that its lots of heat and very little cooling . Outside theres lots of air cooling things down so not so obvious but in the dark it will still be seen. When my 9R was dynoed the pipes coming out the cylinders were bright red. The best I have ever seen were on a generator working full chat the whole manifold turbo and pipe were glowing bright red. Heres a couple of internet pictures of some good ones .

 

because the fuelling is wrong and its overheating……….

 

Carbon cans will contribute too, as they are vastly better insulated. (Ever notice how they always remain cold to the touch?) that heat has to go somewhere

-edit- just watched the video and those aren't actually carbon, but the heat theory still applies, as they aren't in a cooling air flow.

Hmm, seen the vids, looks strange to me. My understanding is that there are two versions of the slip ons. There are completely open non-cat versions and then the 'Homologated' road ones with removable baffles that have Cat's in. This is what I suspect is glowing. I agree though that it deffo shouldn't be running that rich.

 

I just read through the remarks the guy put on there.

seems to me there is no back pressure because no baffles to slow the hot gases as they exit the system... ergo... flame out the back

 

the red inside the pipes is the glow from the cats, the flames are caused by un burnt gas. the red from the cats is perfectly normal.

 

Those cans are the homologated ones. Cat in so they're road legal.

 

So it musnt make any difference as to whether there is a cat in or not or whether fueling is rich or lean flame will always come out the back . heres a picture of a perfectly tuned yamaha with flame and on the throttle .

OK so theres no flame then.

 

and the heat of the exhaust is burning the unburnt fuel……….hence the flame…totally different build up to to the original video but the same result...

 

Ok so what set fire to the unburnt fuel in the original video .

Yeah thats what I thought . Exactly the same thing in both pictures then . Nothing to do with a wheelie or a computer.

 

I'm not so sure the gp flames are the same. The vid clearly shows the bike flaming on the overrun - burning urn burnt fuel. The gp bike has the front wheel in the air, suggesting that wheelie control is preventing combustion.
