  5. Have a look for a refurb. My brother got his 10yr old daughter one for Christmas, it's utterly as new and fully warrantied, boxed and pretty much indistinguishable from new, but a couple of pence change from £70.

  6. This discussion is a constant in our house, the youngsters prefer Android cos they can constantly mess with it, the old Fogies like the seemlessness of IPhone/IPad, but one thing I've noticed is the Android devices are constantly hooked up to a charger not because they are used more than the apple products just that there is so much background cr@p running seems to me Google just want to hoover up info from your phone or tablet. One thing I think is better is FaceTime, when talking to relatives abroad it doesn't seem to suffer from all the bandwidth issues of Skype

  7. The apple products are far more stable than android, and perform more consistently with time, where as android slows down. Apple is far more expensive though, so the cost factor is also part if the popularity of android.

The other thing to consider is that android really needs anti virus software, but the apple system does not. You need to consider this on a low end android tablet where the anti virus software can slow it down significantly.

  8. was that microsoft induced as another money spinner…….

  9. Microsoft operating systems do require anti virus as well.

There are some who believe that must viruses are written by anti virus software companies to keep them in business.

While it doesn't seem 100% likely to me, some of the more complex 'worms' create no benefit at all to the writer, and stranger scams have existed so who knows?

  10. You'd have thought that the security of your data would be a major consideration when choosing a tablet (or a PC come to that) but it seems it isn't.

Mind you, we get so many people in the shop with crashed hard discs who don't have back-ups, that it seems that people have a real problem understanding the importance of their data. Maybe they need a smack?

  11. Titter titter , Kenneth Williams style.

  12. I guess it depends how valuable or sensitive the data is. There is nothing of value on my Mac at all, so given their inherent stability I never bother backing it up - there is nothing on it other than music (which is all backed up onto my iPod) which cannot be readily replaced.

  13. You'd be amazed how many people have photos on their computers. Their entire emotional lives are on them. Students sometimes have all their coursework on a laptop without a backup. So if they forget it on a bus, or it is broken, stolen or fails, they stand to lose years of their lives. Fools.

  14. yeah what kind of idjut would leave a lap top full of confidential information on a bus…...

  15. The same sort of eejit that would forget anything on a bus - half the population.

  16. You won't find me leaving anything on a bus - I'd rather crawl on bloody stumps than use a peasant trolley in the UK

  17. What kind of idiot would be on a bus in the first place?
