Ducati 916 special in MCN this week

Discussion in 'Ducati General Discussion' started by andydmcn, Dec 30, 2013.

  1. Ladies and Gents

Just to let you all know there is a 20-odd page Ducati 916 special supplement inside this week's copy of MCN to celebrate the passing of the 20 years since the bike was launched.
Not only has a 1996 916 SP been completely stripped to component form and laid out on the floor for everything to be seen but we have talked to many of those responsible for the design, engineering and testing of the bike.
Carl Fogarty talks about what it was like as a racing bike, owners talk about their love of the bikes and we have tested a 1994 916 against the latest 899 Panigale.

    Hope you like it.

Issue will go on sale on January 1 in shops that are open that day and January 2 for all the rest. It will of course also be available on the Apple Newstand and Google Play for those not able to buy a print copy.

    Kind regards

  9. Been up in the rain to my local paper shop and it hasn't been delivered to them.

  10. Picked one up today in Asda.

£2.10 for what appears to be a very slim pamphlet made up mostly of adverts.

  11. Do you mean the '916 special' bit or MCN in general?

  12. There's plenty of info in the 916 special (24 pages worth) but the whole MCN is rather thin at just 60 pages.

  13. Oh and why test the 916 with a 899? Wouldnt it be more relative to have 916 and 1199? Or 748 and 899? And why in the complete line up of 916 models which includes the 955,996 and 998 is there no 748?

  14. The reason we chose to put the 916 against the 899 was because they are the closest in terms of capacity when comparing old with new; the 748 by definition is also not a 916 which is what the special edition was all about. Plus the 899 is still a new enough bike to be of greater interest than the 1199 to many of our readers.

There are reasons the rest of the paper is thinner than normal and it does somewhat go against what someone else put on here about the paper being full of adverts. There are actually far fewer ads booked at this time of the year so without them we have to reduce the page count and still maintain the same advertsing to editorial ratio.
The 916 special is a way of increasing the content of the paper by offering something special at an otherwise quiet time of the year.

  15. I buy BMW News, sorry MCN every week anyway. Its only £2...(ish). Ive been looking forward to this issue. As a 916 owner and believer that it is THE best motorcycle ever made. But i bet the poster will have a fold in it.

  16. Am I the only one thinking the video is utterly pointless?

    What does it tell us?

    Why?

  17. Oooo nice fancy garage. Like to see them do it on the side of the M25 at 2am when its pissing it down and your reg/rect packed up and you're swapping them over.
