  8. If you buy a 749/999 try and buy one that you know the history of, of that comes with a decent warranty.

My first 749 was a money pit, but some owners have cracking bikes that never go wrong.

All in all, a wonderful bike, if you find a good one.

  9. Welcome to the forum Pip.

I had a 749s, my first duke ( 2005 yr but was first model - grey swingarm / silver frame ) and never had an issue - bar breaking down in Austria. But this was becuase of the alarm fitter not sealing the CDI properly - 3amp fuse - easy fix. Not the bikes fault.

You need to get a bike thats not molested, FULL service history etc and if the bike has dealer info, call them to check re service.

You should take the plunge for sure. The s model in the 749 is a little quicker than the standard model, so worth considering.I came off a fireblade and bought the 749s, found it fine and quick enough and was well able. It pulls like a train and will keep up with litre bikes no problem. If you ride in town or the like the gearing in the 999 could be too tall, just take that into consideration. Ive moved to an 848 now but kinda of looingto go backwards at a 2006+ 999s. Decisions ! You do have to adjust of coking from an IL4 but its worth it. Twins suit some ppl more than IL4's for sure.

Best of luck with the hunt !

  11. Looks clean, low mls but my thinking is the price seems to be a bit rich in my opinion.

In the same breath, the "s" in both the 749 & 999 are hard to come by.

This should have 2 black keys and a red master key & code card. The red key has the code for the immobiliser / engine and used for reprogramming new black keys if you need to.There are ways around it (so i believe) but its best to have the master key with the bike. I think they stopped with the master keys from 2007 or 2008 onwards (848 / 1098 etc ) I sand to be corrected here (?).

Be interested to now if its a genuine monoposto (single seat) or biposto with the pillion seat conversion...

  12. Seen this....its a standard 749 BUT it looks v v clean....out of the two, I'd buy this on first impression. Add is crap but bring someone who knws with you if you're unsure.
