Ducati 916 special in MCN this week

Discussion in 'Ducati General Discussion' started by andydmcn, Dec 30, 2013.

  1. In fairness to MCN, its a time of year when the bike world in general is v quiet. So there aint much news really to print.

Id like to see the 899 v 848 back to back test soon - when weather improves and you can run a bike quick enough on the road.

  2. Yep I would also really like to see a proper road and track thrash of both.

I just got the new Fastbikes and it had a dyno chart showing the 899 at 126HP at the wheel, maybe the dyno reads slightly low compared to others but I thought it would be nearer 132HP, we are splitting hairs though, both are weapons compared to the. 916, not taking anything away from that majestic beauty! ;-)

  3. I would like to congratulate MCN for this feature.
Usually I get 3 minutes of good reaning frn MCN but this issue made 30 minutes. A ten fold inprovement...:biggrin:

  4. I just stuck out for a newsstand subscription on the iPad. I usually buy the paper every week in the UK but the last one I read was in September before I left.

The 916 article was a good bit of reading. It would have been good if you could have added a few more interest comments but otherwise very good.

  5. Downloaded today good bit of reading interesting for those of us new to Ducati and owning a 916.Fast bike have also had a couple of Articles on Ducati lately 899.

  6. great read :upyeah: many thanks mcn for helping keep me sane (ish) over the winter.

  7. I congratulate MCN for acknowledging this bike like this. Very few of you know me but I have been involved in bikes for many years had all types of bikes and raced at the highest level.

The importance of the 916 simply cannot be overstated, when it arrived it took me a while to get to grips with its design and concept but it is a wonderful thing, it was like a gift from the gods at the time, and it still is. In reality all of this series from that machine right to the 998 capture a period in biking that was really glorious, Ducati was on top, not just in the racing but that bike had features that were copied, mostly unsuccessfully by almost every other manufacturer. I recall my first ride on a 916 and it was racing, it was the first time I had sheer power over all the other bikes, do I go left or right round this next one? I never even realized how well it was handling because it just did it so easily.
Absolutely stunning and I will never forget it. I later bought a 916BP and then moved on to a 748SPS which is a superb bike. I rebuilt it myself, fitting the crank and rods together and assembling the whole rest of the motor just as I like it, and I enjoyed every minute of it. It is an honor to be able to do that and even as a good rider it is very difficult to truly ride the wheels off any of these bikes.

I won't bang on forever but the 916 and its offshoots may in fact be the best bikes we ever see in our lifetimes, that machine was a total game changer.
Great machines and ones that all Ducati owners should love and respect, they probably saved the brand which we hold so dear.

  8. Agree with a couple of the comments on here, the 916 article was good, but take that out and I doubt there would be enough paper left to wipe my arse

    Q fat arse jokes.......

  11. i am allowed to get a copy of mcn with the weekly shopping as after it's been read it makes great litter tray liner for the guinea pigs!

i doubt they will get to s(h)it on this weeks copy tho.....

  12. Don't normally read MCN (mostly as I read several bike magazine), but I check the website fairly often. I do however have two issues at home, both sad. The first is the issue that covered the death of Shoya Tomizawa and the second is the issue covering the death of Marco. I just cant bring myself to get rid of them

Wish my 1198 turned or held a line like my 916.

  16. I still have a September 12th 2001 Daily Fail at home that I bought with my dinner money at age 14.

I was going to keep it to show my grandkids when they grow up.

I figured it would be like having a copy of the paper the day after Archduke Ferdinand was shot, eventually leading to a world war.

In reality it only led to me carting an old newspaper about for 12 years. I don't even know where it is now.

  17. My 916 stays OEM. The 1198 will get adjustable yokes at some point. And lighter wheels. And...

  18. I think this 916 special is pretty good, and certainly worth the price of half a pint during 'dry' January

  19. Hells bells... Beer is pricey in your neck of the woods.

  20. I agree, read it on the ipad edition last night, thought it was a good read, still think there should have been a mention about the 748, not exactly an insignificant part of the 916 evolution, but a small criticism of what was a very good supplement.
