Lcd clock info has disapeared!! HELP.

  1. Today I went to start the bike and everything seemed fine but didn't start first time, all the info was there on the dash, neutral light, oil light, ect ect so I went to start it again but there was no info on the LCD and no other lights lit up although the backlight on the clocks was lit???
The bike started fine the second time but all the dash was empty of any info, the indicators, headlights all work fine!!!
yesterday we did have a powercut and the bike was plugged into my optomate at the time, has this caused a problem? is it a blown fuse or something?? or is it something more sinister.
what I cant understand is that everthing was fine the first time I went to start it, second time all the clocks are showing no info at all, but bike starts no problem.
    any help would be great
    cheers mark.

  2. Hard to say but defo not fuse. There is a fuse for dash but it would just switch off entire dash and bike would not start.

They were prone to freezing those dashes. Disconnect it from loom, for about 30s) or even better disconnect both battery leads so ecu also powers down.

Plug it all back in and it is quite possible it will come back to life. If not then LCD part of dash has died.

Few options there, try and fix the dash, get new dash and re-program it to match ECU/Keys, get new dash and move all data from old to new (would also preserve actual odo reading), get ECU flashed so immobiliser is disabled and go for bling aftermarket dash.

  3. When my battery was on the blink the biggest clue would come from a crazy dash.

  4. Hi thanks for your reply, apart from the LCD disappearing completely on the second turn of the key!! the other lights also stopped functioning ....Ie the neutral, oil, fuel, indicators, high beam, + immobolizer, would this also happen with the freezing that you mentioned, and when you mention freezing!! do you mean air tempreture or freezing as in stopped working. I also forgot to mention in my post that when the bike was attached to the optomate sometimes the imobalizer light would go out, but on starting the bike up it would light up again. tomorrow I will follow your advice and disconnect the battery and see what happens?? hopefully it will solve the problem

  5. Hi can't see the battery being the problem as its a new battery of only 2 months old and fully charged,, + the dash didn't go crazy!! it just disappeared completely!!! just can't understand it

  6. Have you popped your dash off and checked the connector is fitted correctly? It just pulls off if I remember rightly

  7. As above I'd just pull the dash off the headlight unit, it needs a good pull mind, it's just a few rubber grommets hold it in place, the loom is held in place by a screw on the back of the clocks.

Leave be them disconnected for a minute for any residual charge to go.

  8. ^^^^

as above re taking the clocks off.

Stand over the bike facing from the direction you sit. Put your two hands evenly over the clock with one hand either side & with your thumbs on the display side and fingers on the back - get a good grip and pry it off slowly. The rubber grommits will give way and the clocks are off.

The wirting loom that goes into the back will need to be removed. There is a screw that you will need to loosen, but be careful as it can move around the back of the clocks and its a little fiddly to get back in - but perseverance works here.

  9. Hi all,
done as you all suggested took clocks off the bike, disconnected from wiring loom for a couple of minutes, reconnected and BINGO problem solved. Also while waiting to do this I checked out the price of new clocks just in case this didn't work?...... over £900.00 quid!!! I nearly died. So thanks to you all for your valuable input.
    all the best Mark

  10. Hi,

when the dash went mad, was the rev counter fixed at max revs?

I've had this a couple of times, disconnecting and reconnecting the fuse nearest to the headlight (there are four fuses on the right hand side of the dash, I am talking the one furthest away from the throttle,so to speak) solved the problem.

  11. Years ago a mate of mine had a 1000cc yamaha with a mechanical speedo , which stopped working , We took it to pieces to see if it was fixable . Inside there was a note which said " Aw no not again " . I nearly pissed myself laughing . Nothing to do with your digital speedo but I thought i'd share it.
