Ninnnnne Ninnnnne !! 999s v 848

  1. Me too. Like everyone else judged it as not being as nice as a 916. My error. Its nice in its own right. Theres a lot of nice detail in them when you give em a good look at. I think they're sweet lookers. However i like the 1198 grunt.

  2. Just curious for those that have had both, but against each other on track or road, could you split them? Similar power after all..although some argue, no substitute for cubes..

  3. 848 cheap copy wannabe that if you want to get anything done on you put 1098 stuff on to………..999 ahead of its time much better value for money.

  4. Lucky enough to have both, but actually prefer my 999 which is now my track bike.

Brilliant handling and plenty fast enough me, but certainly not a down grade from the 848.

848 is a great bike for shortish, fast blast. But the riding position puts all the weight onto my wrists which hurt like hell after a while.

The sound of the 848 with termi's however is just brilliant.

  5. sorted for you….

  7. Dont know how anyone can say the T9 is better over distance. I managed 30 fast miles while a mate tried my bike and nearly threw it back at him. He'd spent years and cash getting it to handle right, and tbf it did, but no where near as well as an 848 still

  8. I don't understand how this can be?

They can't be too far apart in terms of weight.

The geometry has been pretty much unchanged since the days of the 916.

So unless your mate's bike was fekked, how can there be such a massive difference?

  9. I couldnt lift my head enough to see where I was going. Too low front hogh rear and long reach to bars. It handled well enough but at a price

  10. This is very interesting. As a 999 owner, I've always wondered about the 848, and now I have an idea. I like the effortless stomp of the 999, so the 848 probably would be less my thing. As for the handling, the 999 does not limit my style. Speed limits, barbed wire fences, other traffic, boulders on the verge, blind corners, dodgy road surfaces - these limit my style. So having more handling (if indeed there really is any) isn't going to make much difference to me.

Took the 999 out a couple of days ago - still marvellous - way more of everything than I am allowed to use legally.

  11. Had both preferred the 999 handling and power wise, it has a good midrange which the 848 doesn't have and for me that's how I prefer my Ducati's. Handling wise my 749 race bike was the best Duc I've had including my 1198 and 1199.
Its not a downgrade at all :)

  12. Funny how these 999's grow on you, admit I hated it when it first appeared, now really like the look of them and fancy trying one

  13. Bought my new 1098 in 2007 and kept my 2003 999s . 3 months later I part ex'd my 1098 for a 999R and kept my 2003 999s . Only got the 999R now but can't see it going anywhere soon .

How are they for general use during the year. Is there a lot of upkeep over lets say an "s" model ?

  16. tks for that.....:upyeah:
    :upyeah:

  17. Im in the process fo getting a "loan" of a 999s soi I will keep this updated....

  18. Hope its a nicely set up one. When I first got mine it handled like an utter pig, was the worse bike I had ever ridden the previous owner had tweaked it in the worst possible way.
I took it to Kais how did a basic set up £50 which made a world of difference. Then a few months later I too the forks and shock back for a respring/revalve which just made it sublime.
The front is so planted and the rear just feel like its an extension of my arse.
