Parts rejecting the bike?

  1. Took the toy out for a blat, enroute home and the fuel light came on so I stopped to get fuel
    Filled up them dismounted, at which point I realised the seat cowl had jettisoned off the back and the toolkit had gone with it:(
    Most annoyed so went back the route I had come from and 5 or so miles along and there it was by the side of the road, paint and plastic scratched to bits ( it's the replacement passenger cowl, not the one that ships with the bike) no sign of the toolkit though.
    I had been riding for a few hours before it came off.
    When I picked the bike up only three weeks ago the dealer said they'd had a few reports of them ejecting.
    Going to see what ducati say as I've just paid £150 for something that's now fecked!
    Plus the cost of the toolkit!

  3. Not fit for purpose as far as I'm concerned, if it comes off it's hardly up to the job, couple that with dealer saying the same thing prior to mine going for a button.
    Worse they can say is no, if that happen I'll ask them to supply at cost.

  5. Thought that myself, and it may have been the case but it was after a few hours, I could be wrong but I would have thought if it were to come off it would happen on the first bump or first bit of speed?
     
  6. Not necesarily. It happened to me years ago on my Blade. I accepted I hadn't fitted it properly and bought a new one. I find it quite disturbing that no-one seems to accept that they could fuck up today. The world has gone mad.

    I have double checked the cowl/rear seat every time I have taken them off since then. Lesson learned.
     
  7. Exactly the same happened to me on a Blade, what made it worse was the loss of my IPhone which was stored under the seat!!! Expensive ride out- that one.... I'm somewhat paranoid now. Still waiting for delivery of my red cowl. Hope Ducati are sympathetic in terms of the replacement. Have you heard any issues with 1199's?
     
  8. Same thing happened to me. The dealer pretended to be concerned and has apparently spoken to Ducati about my issue. My guess is that Ducati have said, there is no issue with the cowl, if you put it on properly and the problem is with the supplying dealer. It cost me £140 for a new one and if I'm honest I was hoping for my money back as I had never even touched the rear cowl!! Since having had the new one it appears that you have to make sure its secured properly as I have had no issues since. Course not, I put it on properly. Although the dealer won't admit it, it just wasn't put on properly but of course I cannot prove it. I'm disappointed that it just seems to have been swept under the carpet though but what can you do. I thought I might get some discount off some DP parts or something which I've tried on numerous occasions but it just falls on deaf ears.

  12. If you're referring to me then you're completely wrong. I'm as chilled as a chilled thing in chilled land on a chilled day.

    I just find it astounding that people on here seem to think they have a God given right to claim from Ducati for mistakes that could be/are self inflicted.
     
  13. Just for the record :wink: it was the dealer that contacted Ducati to see if there was an issue with the rear cowl, perhaps to deflect the blame and ease my frustration. And, more importantly, my bike was purchased new and mine fell off in the first 200 miles. I had not even touched the cowl... :tongue:

    I'm innocent m'lord...
     
  14. That's a bit worrying as I always thought the cowl was quite a tight fit, because when I put mine on I have to give it a bit of a thump with the heel of my hand to get it to click into place.

  16. When you put them on they need a further push/tap back to click into place properly, you may think its on but its not....heard of plenty of people doing it including dealers
     
  17. so if you fit it back on now if its faulty it show just come off in your hand if you pull it? bet it doesn't if its pushed home correctly
     
  18. happened to me twice on my 1199s. first time after 600 mile service (dealer put it on) second time after installing tail tidy (myself)
    both times i managed to grub it with my left hand before it hit the ground and then obviously could not pull the clutch so stopping was quite challenging. there is definitely a problem. every time i get on the bike now i check that cowl is on properly
     
  19. Was dealer fitted so not sure if it had clicked or not, fourth time out and hadn't happened before
     
  20. JHP warned me to ensure it was given a firm push when I collected the bike, no issues so far touch wood.
