In the little bit of fine weather we had over Xmas & NY I took the Pani out only for the engine warning light to come on. Phoning around the local'ish dealers none can fit it in for over a month. TMM that's an excessive wait. Is it usual to wait that long for warranty work?
tell them to get it fixed, load of shite mate its different when they sell you the bike and tell you a load of crap to get a sale , or just ride it and when it breaks tell them to come and pick it up.
I had the same thing last year with the Troubles bike, also quoted a 4 week wait but that was in the middle of summer when you would expect them to be busy. I called Ducati customer services in Italy who were very helpful about getting the bike collected by the AA and taken to my nearest dealer. I arranged for it to be taken in early and once the bike was actually in the workshop they managed to complete the work early. I think you are justified in saying you don't want to ride it under the circumstances in case of a major engine fault so ask them to pick it up asap, maybe even ask for a courtesy bike . How long have you had it an did you buy it from a dealer ?
Cheers for the insight dukesox. I purchased it from a main dealer in Leeds last March, unfortunately I'm in London. I'm strongly tempted to follow your lead and call Ducati customer services in Italy and have them handle it. Do you have their number? Thanks again.
I see Yev has posted the details, they are the same ones I used, they really were helpful. If the bike is with you in London try calling Ducati Aylesbury. I see on their site they are offering either free collection within 25 miles or 10% off a service so I guess they are not rushed off their feet.
Thanks dukesox. It's Ducati Aylesbury who can't look at it till Feb 15, they say their workshop if full.
I live in Herts and despite Aylesbury being my nearest dealer I wouldnt take it there - so take it to Motorapido instead who know these bikes inside out.
I guess the free collection/10% discount offer is working then ! That's a bugger. Have you tried Metropolis in Barnet ? Have you contacted Ducati yet and if so, have they been able to help ? At least the weather is rubbish so you are not missing too much.
I contacted Ducati via the suggested email address, they called me within a few hours (that was impressive). Ducati support suggested calling the breakdown recovery service who'll take it on to a dealer. I guess that'll be Metropolis, which I'd like to avoid purely down to the reviews I've seen online. I haven't called breakdown recovery yet as I'm working away from home until next week.
Ring the recovery but insist they take it to your chosen dealer. My recommendation is JHP Ducati Coventry, IMHO best dealer in the UK.
At this time of I doubt very much that any Ducati dealer in the country has a waiting list of a month to get a bike into the workshop, especially for warranty work. Ideally it needs to go back to the supplying dealer, who should get it into the workshop immediately. Other dealers don't really want to be doing warranty work on a bike that they haven't made a penny on, no incentive to get it turned around, when they can be making money doing their own service work for their own regular customers
Dealers should do warranty work irrespective of where you purchased the bike from....first question I was asked when I took mine to my nearest dealer in Aylesbury was did you buy the bike here. ..honestly does it friggin matter where I bought the bike from..its under warranty just sort it...thankfully due to a balls up in booking it in I had to take my bike elsewhere and it got resolved by a propee ducati dealer
Agreed any dealer should do it, that's one of the principle obligations to joining Ducati's authorised dealer network (otherwise it's not a network). However, we all know practice & principle hardly ever align. It's my 3rd Ducati (999, 1098 before the Pani) and I'd though dealers attitudes had improved. I'm still very impressed Ducati called me back, a polar difference to KTM who'd never engage with their buying public. That said, the KTM dealers I dealt with were brilliant and would attend to warranty issues willingly. KTM dealers seem to know the difference between long tail and short tail sales. Might have to look at the 1290 again
I have an RC8-R before the Pani and have nothing but praise for the KTM Centre in Hemel Hempstead. Nothing was too much trouble, didn't buy the bike there, warranty work was done with no questions. Great bunch of guys in there
